Taco Bell wins the fast food wars.
When I was a kid, I dreamed that McDonald's would eliminate all competition. To help them achieve this most noble goal, I refused to go to other hamburger fast food places. KFC, Burger King etc are humanity's worst enemy.
What's the difference between Dunkin Donuts and Dunkin Donuts (Boston Option)
I left out KFC, which is a serious contender. :(
I think the problem with this poll is that some of the restaurants like Taco Bell don't have much of a presence in many countries. I have never seen one or heard of it in Hong Kong or China.

Oops. Maybe we can just pretend the first Dunkin Donuts is KFC.
I remember watching a Stallone movie. He was frozen in time, and when he wakes up after a couple of decades or whatever, the only restaurant in the world is Pizza Hut.
It is the wrong restaurant, but I liked the concept.

Pizza Hut is not canon.
It's already false choice: McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger King are their own things, but you're missing the quiet megacorps that own several of the entries in the poll: Inspire Brands and Yum! Brands- Inspire is probably the real king- it owns Arby's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Sonic, Jimmy John's, Dunkin', and Baskin-Robbins along with a couple others, and Yum! is the company that owns KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and WingStreet, again along with a couple others (Yum! used to be a bigger player that also owned Long John Silver's and A&W, but it spun those off about 10 years ago).

I am sure it was Pizza Hut. At least it was Pizza Hut in the version I saw.

QuoteIn the version of Demolition Man released in the United States, Taco Bell is the only restaurant that remains in the year 2032. Spartan is invited to a Taco Bell dinner by city leader Doctor Raymond Cocteau (played by Nigel Hawthorne), as thanks for saving him from Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes), the criminal Spartan was awoken from cryogenic sleep to apprehend.

Taco Bell is an integral part of Demolition Man's legacy in the U.S., but in European markets, it was replaced by Pizza Hut. Both companies were owned by PepsiCo at the time. Conventional wisdom holds that Pizza Hut became the Franchise Wars winner in Europe because it had a greater international presence.
References to Pizza Hut were added to Demolition Man in post-production. That includes everything from logos to actual dialogue from Stallone and Bullock dubbed in during their drive to dinner. Clips of the "Pizza Hut Cut", in all its awkward glory, can be found on YouTube.
In Hong Kong, everybody knows Pizza Hut. Whereas probably only those who have lived in North America would be aware of Taco Bell.
Mcdonalds is the biggest and most dominant amongst them however it is in retreat.
None.
I agree with the yum assessment.
McDonald's sucks.

McDonald's sucks.
It depends. The hamburgers are ok. Big Macs are ok. McNuggets, hash browns, sausages, and English muffins are actually quite nice. The fries are only good if you eat them like immediately after buying them. They last five minutes max. The milkshakes are bad. The scrambled eggs are a travesty. The coffee is, well, not as good as it can be. McCafe is reasonable. What impresses me most is the consistency. The Big Macs do taste the same throughout the world.
I speak as a fan.
I have heard mcdonald's consistency falters in the US.
Whilst in Japan it was fairly what I was used to (albeit with zero of the occasional screw ups) Americans there reported it was much better than they knew.

And weirdly I walked past the only Taco Bell I've ever seen in Poole yesterday.
McDonalds: haven't been since early 00s, meh.
Taco Bell: never been
Chipotle: never been
Wendy's: been once in the 90s, don't remember much
Five Guys: been once recently, okay but massively overpriced
Dunkin Donuts: I know we're stretching the definition of restaurant in this thread, but donuts?
Subway: gross
I need to check what version is on my blu-ray, I was asked once about it, but I remember hearing Pizza Hut when I watched it first at the cinema. Then heard Taco Bell during a TV screening some years ago.
Didn't watch it in theaters. Remember hearing Taco Bell on the telly years ago.
In the German dub of Demolition Man, it's Pizza Hut, but with a twist: hut is pronounced as "hoot", which is the German word for hat. :D
Neither brand were well known in Germany at the time and neither were tacos, so it's understandable they used the international Pizza Hut version. And I suppose the dubbers thought the logo looked like a hat. :P

You could be doing both worse and better things in Poole.
Is the high street still very Meh?
Whatever Walmart or Amazon decides to name it's restaurant.
Taco Bell - in honour of Demolition Man, not because I believe they will be the last one standing though.
[After all, that film implies that Taco Bell has replaced everything - even whatever the American equivalent is of the local Chippy.]
I only know about Taco Bell because of Languish. They are probably in Vancouver somewhere.
Now A+W, Five Guys and Wendy's - we have those around here. The Pizza Hut went out of business about a decade ago.

Never went to Taco Bell, Chipotle and Pizza Hut. So I guess the idea of a monopoly for them is less prevalent. Only went once to a Wendy.
My answer was Subway. McDonald's had a better situation 20-30 years ago with less competition back then.

Sogway would be my last choice. Only the fact that they are cheap keeps them in business, and even then only when there's no better option.
I went to Subway a few times. The sandwiches looked impressive on paper, and the price was low, but I was invariably disappointed with the quality. It always tasted bad, somehow. I have decided that I will never go to a Subway again if I have a choice.
I never got the idea that Subway are cheap. Maybe the US and HK are different but everywhere I've ran into Subway they're really not.

They're definitely considered cheap in the US, but since I won't go to the US ones I sure haven't ever been to one in some other country. I'll take your word for them not being cheap outside the US and HK.
In any case, the chain is shrinking pretty significantly, though that's more due to idiotic franchising decisions in the past than due to fall in demand.

It's not a matter of which toppings you get. The bread sucks (well, so do the toppings, by and large, but you can get around bad toppings).
What is wrong with the bread? I mean compared to the bread at the competition like McDonalds.

Eat I don't know.
Pret is very expensive, and crap. I don't go there at all.
Subway charges quite a significant amount for a sandwich. I always found small independent sandwich shops to be a cheaper and usually better quality option if that's what you want.
The daily half foot subs here are 2.99. Don't know their regular prices as I haven't been to one in ages.
Yeah, I believe a 6 inch in London is something under £4 (and I feel like at least I recall when I used to work near one they regularly had £5 meal deals) which puts on the cheap end of similarly sized sandwiches elsewhere.

Oddly enough, this is another place I agree with Tyr; I've always considered Subway food to be overpriced for the quality and size they offer.
When you've got a local shop four or five doors away that sells "footlongs" (as Subway would call them) at less than £4.00 with an equivalent or better filling in them...then Subway's offerings are not that attractive at all.
So I decided to test Subway today. Ordered a footlong with fajita chicken and cheddar, tomato, jalapeno, salad, tomato, avocado cream, onions, chipotle sauce in cheese oregano bread. Base price is 8.79, avocado was 1.40 extra. It was fine.
The raspberry cheesecake cookie was excellent, though.

In my experience, the problem is not that you can choose your own toppings, but rather that you must choose your own toppings. I never understood that mindset of running a fast food place; I'm not a fucking cook, you figure out what works well, I'll overrule you if I am indeed a cook or a fussy eater. It may be that sometimes I am left with a bad impression of the chain because I myself do not know how to build a great sandwich.
My curiosity got the better of me, so I ordered some Five Guys.
Bacon cheeseburger, with tomato, salad, grilled jalapenos and onions, BBQ sauce. With extra patty EUR 18.50 (base price is 15.50). There was hardly any sauce, or onions, or jalapenos, leaving a surprisingly bland burger - I've had better burgers at McD's, I'm sorry to say. Fries (regular - EUR 6.50) were ok-ish? I ordered cajun fries, not salty, but they were super salty, and they gave me cajun spice in a little plastic vat? Err ...
Verdict: won't repeat; there's plenty other burger places (and with better quality at that).
I'm with DG.
I hate Subway because I loathe choice in food.
I feel the same with Five Guys where - here at least - you have to choose all the bits you want in your burger.
When it comes to fast food (or indeed - restaurant food) the only choice I really want to have to make is the condiment
Edit: I also feel the same with coffee. The only thing where I might find the mad assortment of decisions fun is bubble tea

I haven't been to five guys in forever but i think the US price is maybe 2/5ths of that.
I've taken to trying to cook my own food lately (previously I just got stuff out). The results are promising and scientists predict I will make an edible meal sometime before 2035.
