Purely speaking of standard crisps here. Your walkers/lays/whatever.
Doritos, monster munch, and the like need not apply.
I fully expect this to go well. :bowler:
Why do you guys boil crisps?

Home chef Eli started the recipe by first adding salt and vinegar to a pot of boiling water. Then, he throws in a few bags of chips and allows it to cook, stirring continuously until soft and mushy. He proceeds to drain the potatoes, straining out the excess water and drinking it for no apparent reason. Next, he puts the mushy chips into a pan with some grated cheese and paprika. "Delicious," he exclaims at the end while trying his bizarre creation

This is so bizarre I'm half tempted to try it. I won't live it down if someone sees me doing it, though. Damn this lockdown.

Makes sense. Thanks.
My favorite are jalapeno flavored.
Of the UK classics - cheese and onion.
Overseas - paprika or dill/spring onions.
In former Yugoslavia only - peanut flavoured crisps :mmm:
I like BBQ, and sour cream and onion.
Curry is great too.
Thailand has a really nice rice cracker with pork floss.

I'm going with the Canadian write in of ketchup. Which doesn't actually taste like ketchup
Paprika
There used to be chips here with Bratlfett flavor, i.e. pork lard. They don't make them anymore. :(

Plain salt Lays Gourmet is the food of the gods.
There's a variant with black truffle that feels really decadent when you eat it, and might give you some regrets, but is sooooo gooood.

I tried these a while back, they were surprisingly good (the truffled cheese was the main taste, and the sparkling wine in the aftertaste):

I could do without the sparkling wine, but the truffled cheese sounds delightful.
I think I've seen that brand in airport shops and the like, and some of their flavours are quite fanciful.
Yeah, Kettle are good. They've a far more rustic texture and just feel so much better than bog standard Walkers et al.
Sometimes they do really lean into this posh crisp vibe

Yeah I don't consider them normal standard crisps.
They're posh crisps - working definition: do you think you should put them in a bowl?
REAL FOOD INGREDIENTS
And incidentally the best standard crisp brand is obviously Taytos :contract:
I don't think any other crisps are so good that they've got a theme park:

I like the Kettle Mature Cheddar ones over here. :)
I am horrified. I was shocked when I encountered the "tato" plant in fallout 4. I thought only in a game would people shorten "potato" to "tato".
I just learned that some people shortened "potato" to "tayto" in real life. This is beyond morally reprehensible.
I have no words.

Yes. The only alternative to plain, back in the day.

I'm confused. Why would I not use a bowl (or at least a plate) for any crisp consumption?
Anyway, the best 'chip' experience is:

A.... plate?
Bowl, yes. Straight from the bag if noone's watching, yes.
A plate seems unnecessarily unwieldy.

Yeah, like having with a sandwich.
I had an English colleague once that ate a handful of crisps and a sandwich for lunch each day. Boggles the mind.
Could even have a crisp sandwich :mmm:
I once saw a gaggle of high school girls eating a packet (or part of a packet) each of cookies for lunch. I guess that's less healthy.
The crisps and sandwich is almost certainly because that's the core in a Boots/Tesco/Sainsbury's etc meal deal. Sandwich + snack (crisps or chocolate or something) + drink for £3-4
Yeah, I don't see Crisps as food, but I guess it's not really worse than fries or fried potatoes or pancakes. So quite bad.

They are definitely worse than fried Potatoes, unless you fry your potatoes in a lot of fat.

You had 46.
Not a fan of flavored chips. BBQ is OK if pressed.

I call them taters.
To answer the question, these are the best 'crisps':

GRANDMA UTZ BITCHES
Kettle style are a superior chip. All brands are the same to me.
All of them kick ass, but for some reason Grandma Utz is better. Can't get them down here. :(

A sandwich, a bag of potato chips (crisps, if you must) and a cookie is a pretty standard box lunch for conferences in the like here in the states, so that doesn't seem that weird.
It lends a certain gravitas to your population.
Some burger places here serve only fresh chips/crisps instead of fries/chips as sides, which I find annoying.

Actually, I agree that the fresh ones often aren't as good as the ones out of bags. Seems like that shouldn't be the case, but it is. :hmm:
Utz chips are delicious but Ruffles Original-Style, as garbs posted, is the One True King.
WTF is a crisp.
Salt and Vinegar is the best. Unfortunately Korea hates them, so I have to import from overseas. They have a bunch of the normal flavors, but the one that Korea loves the best is the Honey Butter Chip. :yuk:
