Have a look:
PFM: Storia di un minuto and Per un Amico
Gentle Giant: Three Friends and Octopus
Jethro Tull: Thick as a Brick
Yes: Close to the Edge
Pink Floyd: Obscured by Clouds
ELP: Trilogy and Pictures at an Exhbition
Genesis: Foxtrot
Good choice.
Though I think I could make a case for 1969 or possibly 1974?
1973:
Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon
The Who: Quadrophenia
Genesis: Selling England by the Pound
Mike Oldfield: Tubular Bells (I know, I know, but can't deny it was hugely popular)
King Crimson: Lark's Tongues In Aspic
EPL: Brain Salad Surgery (I don't like it that much, but it has lots of fans)

that's a good one too.
1972 - Jethro Tull: Thick as a Brick
1973 - Jethro Tull: A Passion Play
1974 - Jethro Tull: Warchild
Good three years there
Slightly off topic, but my favorite progressive rock album ever is Breakfast in America, which is way after '72. I do think the best group in the genre is Yes, though, followed closely by Rush. I like Tales From Topographic Oceans as an examplar of prog rock style (insanely long songs, etc.)

Can't have a top year in Prog w/o a higher echelon King Crimson album.

You're free to have your own, wrong, opinions.
As King Crimson has been mentioned a coupla times, I thought I'd share a nice modern day King Crimson-ish sound: King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. Check em out.
My mom used to sing me King Crimson songs for bedtime when I was a kid. My mom is awesome. :)
(moms are awesome in general)

Heh, I listened to "I'm in your mind" on repeat when drawing my King of Spades card ... it was very, very appropriate. :D
What is a good year for Fraggle Rock?

What is a good year for Fraggle Rock?
1985 or 1986. Those were the best seasons.
