Yes, Brenda & John Romero's company. For a strategy game. (After Ion Storm, John Romero has mostly been working on mobile games IIRC.)

QuoteRomero Games is working on a strategy game with Paradox
On Twitter today Brenda Romero announced that Romero Games is partnering with Paradox to create a new strategy game. All we have are the developer logos at the moment, but more details will be revealed at E3 this year.
For "advance peeks at the game's theme" you can sign up at romeroparadox.com. A few nuggets may also appear on the Paradox forums, where the game currently exists as a speculation thread. The game will be based on original IP.
"This has been a project we've been wanting to work on for a long time, so it's especially exciting that we'll be partnering with Paradox Interactive to fully realize that dream," says Romero Games co-founder Brenda Romero, via press release. "We can't wait to tell everyone more, so make sure you watch this space!"
On the Romero Games site the studio says it has "two games in production across several platforms". It's unclear whether the pair includes Sigil, an "unofficial spiritual successor" to the fourth episode of Ultimate Doom, due to release at some point this month after a delay from February.
Since its formation in 2015 Romero Games has released a HD update of Dangerous Dave in the Deserted Pirate's Hideout on mobile, and Gunman Taco Truck on Steam. A strategy game is an interesting change of pace for this particular studio, though Brenda Romero has worked on strategy games such as Jagged Alliance series and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Commander. Let the speculation commence!
Though since Daikatana, John has been reluctant to talk to the public from what I understand, and Brenda is the public face of the company.
Maybe this is the project they fired Jon Shafer from :P
I didn't know that Brenda was one of the designers/writers on Wizardry 8 and a writer for JA2
Also, plenty speculation posts on Paradox - "Romero? Must be about zombies!" Stupid kids. :P

That was my first thought :Embarrass:
Shame on you.
Could someone tell this ignorant bastard who the Romero's are?

A famous videogame designer. The "father" of first person shooters.

John Romero is the co-founder of id Software and designer for, to pick the top 3, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake.
John famously made a really shitty game called Daikatana in 2000, after which he pivoted to mobile games for a while.
Brenda Romero was the designer on Wizardry 8 as well as a lot of other Sir-Tech games before marrying John Romero.
So paradox is making a first person shooter?

The game was called John Romero's Daikatana. In addition to it being "really shitty", it was also endlessly hyped prior to its release, with a lot of that hype focusing on Romero himself being involved.

As they mentioned...I think a near-modern world (Cold War) setting is just about the only one they haven't done yet.
Something along the lines of an updated Balance of Power/Shadow President/Command HQ would be interesting (but I doubt this is that).
Yeah, it's hard to say what this will end up being. Paradox is known for strategy games, not first-person shooters, while Romero is the reverse. That suggests that either Paradox or Romero is stepping out of their comfort zone, or that the new game is intended to be some sort of genre-buster (though I'm not sure how you'd go about blending a FPS with strategy). Or they're both stepping out of their comfort zone and the game will be a sports game. ;)
The original dune game nicely mixed fp adventure and strategy.
A man can hope

Well they did say it was based on an original IP.

The Trumps would then become a scorned family; you'd have to put him in charge of a trireme to avoid that :hmm:
Seems like an Omerta-like.

QuoteOrganized Crime Runs Rampant in 1920s Chicago with this Character-Driven Strategy Game
The wise guys at Paradox Interactive and Romero Games have made a big commotion today announcing the much anticipated strategy joint, Empire of Sin.
Set in the golden years (1920s Chicago), the game has players build their own ruthless criminal empire as one of 14 distinct bosses vying to run the seedy underworld of organized crime in the city. With randomly generated starting conditions, players will have to adapt to survive and do whatever it takes to outsmart, out-gun and outlast their opponents.
Empire of Sin will be coming to PC, Mac Switch, Xbox and PlayStation consoles in 2020.
Get in on the action with a cinematic trailer here.
EMPIRE OF SIN, THE STRATEGY GAME FROM ROMERO GAMES AND PARADOX INTERACTIVE, PUTS YOU AT THE HEART OF THE RUTHLESS CRIMINAL UNDERWORLD OF 1920S PROHIBITION-ERA CHICAGO.
It's up to you to hustle, charm and intimidate your way to the top of the pile and do whatever it takes to stay there. This character-driven, noir-inspired game puts players smack dab in the glitz and glamor of roaring 20s all while working behind the scenes in the gritty underbelly of organized crime.
BUILD A CRIME EMPIRE:
Raise your criminal empire from the ground up by selecting your racket of choice (be it speakeasies, union protection, or casinos) and building a team of loyal mobsters to make your mark on the streets. Once you make a name for yourself, expand your influence by taking over rival territory and adding more ventures to your repertoire.
DEFEND AND EXPAND TERRITORY:
If it comes to blows, hypothetically of course, and your posse needs to send a message, face off in brutal turn-based combat. Recruit your goons strategically to build a strong chemistry within your crew to maximize combat damage and help secure your hold on the city.
EXPLORE A LIVING, BREATHING CITY:
Explore the streets of vibrant 1920s Chicago and interact with a full cast of living, breathing characters each with lives of their own that inform how they react to what you do (or don't do). Schmooze, coerce, seduce, threaten, or kill them to get your way.
WIELD YOUR INFLUENCE:
Make and break alliances, bribe cops, and trade on the black market to gain an edge and expand the influence of your crime family. But always keep your enemies close and ensure you have a mole on the inside and eyes everywhere.
PURSUE MULTIPLE VICTORY STRATEGIES:
Whether you make it to the top with violence, business smarts, or city-wide notoriety, there are a number of ways to become King or Queen of Chicago. With various starting conditions and constantly changing crew dynamics, no two playthroughs will ever be the same.

Prohibition era Xcom.
That's fine by me.
Ill probably check this out. My favorite RPG when I was a kid was Gangbusters.
I'll wait for the "Untouchables" DLC that lets you play the good guys.
In the old Gangbusters RPG (which was put out by TSR), you could be a gangster, a Prohibition Agent, a cop, an FBI agent (I think?), and... a reporter. I don't ever remember anyone wanting to play a reporter, ever, though there were some neat rules around being one, like what sort of story constituted a 'scoop', etc.

It's not just that. Everyone makes shitty games once in a while.
It's that, after leaving Id Software (at the time, making Quake) over "purity of vision" issues, he said he was going to make to ultimate FPS, and his design goals were extremely ambitious. But he was a poor administrator.
From what I've read, his talent is not so much as game designer, but designing tools to make game, that's where he shines. On the administrative side... well, planning something more ambitious than Quake, with a smaller team, a smaller budget and a smaller schedule was really dumb.
This game is finally getting its dlc. :o

It is/was. From my understanding this is the 2nd DLC that was sold as part of the initial expansion pack. People who bought that pack couldn't get refunds for Steam or Paradox as they had used the base game and DLC one.
This is the game that broke my heart
