I was doing most of the planning of this via PMs, but that doesn't make any sense.
My friend and I will be in Vancouver for Labor Day weekend at an SCA event. We will be heading through Vancouver itself on Monday, and mentioned getting together with Jacob, CC, and BhuddaRhubarb for lunch. Tonitrus is also interested in meeting up. So, now it seems like it's a real possibility, so I figured I'd throw it out here for general consumption.
So.. lunch-ish on Monday, September 4, in Vancouver, BC. Who's interested in joining us? :)
For what it's worth, my friend is a lovely young woman who would make Caliga sad, but Ed happy (she looks 18, but is really 31).
There's nowhere near enough time to make this work, but some day in the future, with more warning, I would love to fly out and meet up with the Vancouver crew + anyone else who might want to come. Vancouver is a fun town, and I enjoyed the one time I did go out with CC, Jacob and Buddha back in... 2009?
That restaurant is no more. A victim of development.
Monday is labour day up here too Meri, so we should be able to make something work. You say you've talked to Josie, right? I'll ping her. I'll give CC a ping off languish as well if he doesn't respond in thread

Oh, cool! Wasn't sure.
Yes, Josie is happy to join us, and willing to head into the city. :)

That's my bad, BB. There were a lot of uncertainties heading into this, and the last time my friend and I went through, a meet up just wasn't going to work out. It now seems logistically possible.
That being said, if you build it, I will come! Pick a weekend that works for you, and I'll happily go back up to Vancouver. It's not that terribly far. :)
I'd love to come to see what Meri thinks 18 looks like, but, you know, no money...

People who know that I have an 18-year-old daughter assume that Lauren is she. It's actually making me want to dye my hair again. :(

I should be able to make it.
As an aside...would places like the Museum of Anthropology (it's on my Vancouver bucket list) be open on a Canuck Labor Day? Though I guess I could always stay the night and catch it the next day.

Their website says they're open. And now I want to go....
Museum then lunch?????
Dyed hair? Pass.
Thank you for thinking of me. :)
The anthropology museum is great.
Complication for me - I have a baby shower for a close friend at 12 on Monday. I could probably swing coffee earlier though....
Lauren and I have to break down camp, but we've got it down to a science now. Should be done by 9:30, and in Vancouver by 10:30 or 11.
There is an anthropology museum in Vancouver? I didn't hear about it when I was there.

Not only is there an anthropology museum, but it's right at UBC!
It was tres cool. The day after I met up with the Languish crew I wound up walking to it from downtown (pro-tip - don't do this), but the museum was worth it.

There is absolutely no way I would walk from downtown to UBC :lol:

When are you aiming to leave Vancouver?
Trying to figure out whether it's better to try to meet afterwards...
We can do Museum while you baby shower, then a supper?
(I might think Meri's hitch to that might be the long drive back home before work the next day)
I am thinking I might find a motel to stay the night, as there are also a couple First Nation art galleries I might want to check out, which I assume would be closed.
I can probably do mid afternoon too, but dinner is a distinct possibility. I may, however, show up with the wife and kid depending on the timing.

Not sure. We have a five plus hour drive home, so that's a factor. I'm pretty sure that Lauren isn't going to want to get in too terribly late, either, mostly because she's fighting in two heavy tournaments in two days and will probably be exhausted.
So.. at a guess? We'd probably want to be out by no later than 3pm.

Baby??? :wub: :wub: :wub:
Mid-afternoon is better than supper, if it's possible.
I thought supper was mid-afternoon. But I may be a culinary barbarian. :sleep:
I use dinner and supper interchangeably.

I hate the word 'supper', it sounds stupid to me and like something a yokel would say. According to the map I grew up in a little blue bubble. :)

So if you go to a restaurant in the Dakotas do they have a "dinner menu" with reduced portions and prices? :hmm:
Interesting. For me supper is an additional meal taken a few hours after dinner or tea, the high calorie consumption being feasible in a coal-mining community. For posh English people it is a less formal meal than dinner.
I approve of the view expressed in the Dakotas and will emigrate to Sioux Falls if brexit is a disaster.
Is LaCroix around still? We could ask him about supper in the Dakotas.
I eat dinner at 4pm nowadays.
For me growing up supper was the evening meal. Dinner was the noon meal and the main meal of the day. Lunch was if you packed a meal up and took it with you.
Giving Mono credit...maybe we should consider White Spot for the meal portion.
I should be able to make it to Vancouver mid afternoon, I think, but I'll be winging it. I sent my phone number to Meri via FB. If anyone else is in town, get me some contact info via pm and I'll try to coordinate tomorrow when I wrap up my prior engagement.
Leaving the campground now, and heading into Vancouver. Tonitrus can't make it. I'll reach out to Josie now.

It's funny, you're always the first person who gets brought up.
I think our list was:
* Jacob
* Crazy Canuck
* Berkut
* Tonitrus
* Fahdiz
* Sask
* Brazen
* Alci
* 11BV4
* Katmai
* Maximus
Not necessarily in that order. Okay, most definitely not in that order. There may have been others, but don't count on it being you.

We only had an hour, my friend was with us, and we mostly talked about what was going on in Buddha's and my personal lives. Almost all discussion of Languish centered on potential upcoming meetups, except for Brazen. I was trying to convince Buddha that we need more women on Languish and that she should come back to relieve B and me of the burden of being the only ones around anymore. :P

I've actually thought about taking a long weekend and going down to Austin sometime. I've only been there once - years ago and only for one evening - and I've wanted to go back to see it properly for a while. Maybe after your house is built I'll come down and play Grandma to the kids. :)
We plan on having a hide a bed in the upstairs room :)
