Title: Computer techie question
Post by: merithyn on August 22, 2017, 01:45:07 AM
I bought a universal docking station for my laptop because my last job graciously bought me two really nice monitors. Great! Yay! Except...

The really nice monitors have DisplayPort cables, which the docking station doesn't support. It does, however, have an HDMI port and a DVI/VGA port, as well as several USB ports. I'm struggling with finding an adapter with a female DP to male HDMI/DVI/VGA/USB.

Suggestions?

QuotePros: It works, at least it passes a signal

Cons: Doesn't even do 2560x1600, nevermind 4K. Only seems to go up to 1080p. My gpu and monitor can both do the desired resolution in different pairings so this adapter is the weak link

Your monitor likely has a HDMI port too.  You could buy a HDMI 2.0/2.0a cable.

I'll have to look at that. Grey Fox suggested on Facebook the same, and it hadn't occurred to me that this was the case. I just went with the cables that I had used before.
