I have recently been reading the book 1493 by Charles Mann and thought some people here might get a kick out of this. Rather than retype what others have already echoed to the interwebs I figured I'd just link it:

I'm also looking forward to everyone telling me I'm so ignorant for having just learned about this.
I have a 3D-portrait-in-glass thingy of Date Masamune 6 ft to my right.

I recently read an interesting story on Koreans who were sold into domestic servitude too Mexican plantations during the Japanese colonial period. A few ended up in Cuba during the revolution.
Not as cool as your story, but hey, this one actually happened.
I've vaguely heard about this before but no details.
Sucks that there is no movie. Surprising too. Seems right up the Japanese film industry's alley.
It's a very fascinating alternate history scenario that I've never seen satisfactorily explored: what if Japan hadn't closed off to the world.
It was in a very interesting place, more outwards looking and willing to learn from Europe than China but not a push over to be conquered.
That actually makes sense that Japanese Catholics fleeing persecution would hook up with the Spanish :hmm:
History is pretty wild.
Interesting. Apparently there are about 700 descendants from a Japanese embassy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasekura_Tsunenaga) near Seville. Their last name is Japón (Japan) and their banner features a svastika.
Mine too! Am I: Japanese? :w00t:

LOL all that's missing is the early '70's soul soundtrack.
All it needs is puerco pibil and a young Salma Hayek and it's a perfect Tarantino-Rodriguez collaboration.
