Title: eRepublik
Post by: Grallon on July 08, 2009, 02:00:28 PM
Described as the "First Massive Online Social Strategy Game" - this free online game has been endorsed by the New-York Times and the Guardian no less.  I created an account for shit & giggles.

You can find the details here: http://www.erepublik.com/en

Before I sign up I need you to tell me more about it. Is it just some variation on Nation States?

I have logged in only once, gotten a job for Alberta Foods of al places and got my first paycheck (daily).  They describe it as a social networking/strategic game...  A Twitter/Facebook variant I guess.

Eventually you can vote, own a business, fight in wars, run for office, vote, run a newspaper, etc.

It's kind of fun being in Serbia.  They had some Croatians take control of their government by some voter fraud and then proceed to empty the treasury, retreat from every province, and destory the economy before legit Serbs came back and took power.  They forced the Croats out and retook most of their original territory, but their economy was in shambles and they lacked any defensive works or hospitals.  Since then, they've made remarkable strides in getting a solid economic base in place from raw materials up via a "Buy Serbia" campaign which combined with prudent bank management and governmental decisions have led to a sharp decrease in the almost Mugabe like inflation levels they had.  Their first hospital is in the works, and should be going in business soon.

As I believe wages are fixed for positions at companies, I think you can just go buy the amount listed on the company page.

And thank you, Peter. With ample food in my stomach, I'll be quite capable to continue building housing.
Title: Re: eRepublik
Post by: Sophie Scholl on July 14, 2009, 03:27:43 PM
Wages vary by company.  Only the minimum wage is fixed.  Go to the marketplace tab and then the job market button.  Enter in what field you're working and your skill level range to find jobs.  If you've been working every day, you should be at or close to the 2-2.99 range, which is a marked increase in wages compared to the entry level ones.

Garbon, if you need more food, let me know.
Title: Re: eRepublik
Post by: garbon on July 14, 2009, 03:39:46 PM
What I meant was that you could look at your companies' page as that lists the wage that they pay (which I would assume would also be one's current wage).

Okay, thanks.

No... not you!  Central Canada is corrupting you!

Woo hoo!  5 free gold at level 6!  If anyone is in the housing market, figure out how much it'll cost you, and I'll see if I can get a house cheaper for you.  I'll even toss in the difference if it's less maybe...

Also, I can buy things in RSD's, which are cheaper to get for gold than USD's.  .013 vs. .02 dollars per gold.  This helps me to buy up the needed bread and what not.

So I have the 5 gold, but im wary of selling it for currency.  Looking at the rates, I'm not sure I'm seeing it correctly.

On the first page it lists :

3.45 GOLD     1 GOLD = 50.01 USD   So that means for up to 3 gold I could get 50$ ?  That seems low..

As towards the last page this:

1 GOLD     1 GOLD = 5000 USD

0.1 GOLD     1 GOLD = 50000 USD

So I could trade 1 gold for 5000$ on that last one correct?  And .1 gold for $5000 on the last one?

The default is selling USD's  (or whatever your national currency is) for gold, not the other way around.  You have to go to the icon bars at the top and select USD's in the buy menu and gold in the sell menu.

Ok, transaction should be complete.  Your shiny new 1-star housing module courtesy of Dragon Homes should be in your inventory.  I only ended up having to toss 6 RSD to offset the difference.  If anyone else is interested in housing, 3.5 gold will get you a nice shiny new Serbian built home. :)

Yeah, fought several times there and nova scotia.  Doing very little damage though, can't figure out why.  Even with very high wellness (94) I'm only doing 7 damage...that's with strength training every day.

Not entirely sure what it entails, but it goes live either today or tomorrow.  It looks like you have to apply for it I think.  Unsure once again.  The one problem with being in a country whose language you don't speak. :Embarrass:  I'll google translate some stuff, see if I can figure out some more details.  In other news... I'm up to 9RSD a day in pay.  Here's to hoping the pay increases keep coming!
Title: Re: eRepublik
Post by: garbon on July 27, 2009, 10:55:03 PM
From what I read, it sounds like someway to combat how people can show up in a country before an election and "steal" the election (you won't be able to vote in a country if you don't have citizenship in that country).  Based on the faq, sounds like you automatically gain citizenship of whatever province you are in, so if I was in Serbia at the time of the on date, I'd be a Serbian. The applying part seems like what you'll need to do if you want to switch citizenships after the live date.

I'm still in an entry level job. Between forgetting to log-on and the construction market in Denmark becoming more exclusive (minimum skill amount to change is now 3), I'm stuck with >3 skill. :Embarrass:
