I'm collecting recommendations here for my kid, who is nearly 11.
He's a big fan of Gravity Falls and Star vs. The Forces of Evil, both Disney shows (albeit not standard Disney fare).
I've head good things about Steven Universe, though I've never seen any episodes.
Any other good, recent animated shows out there? Let me know!
[And no, Rick and Morty isn't a kids show. :D]
BoJack Horseman? :P

Star Wars Clone Wars and Rebels, if he's into that sort of things.
I've got a few kids under 5 now so it's not the same demographic as an 11 year old... but the kids love the Octonauts and I enjoy it too.
The UK version over the American one as the American one has given the medic penguin, Peyso, a Mexican accent and i'm used to him sounding like a Brit.

I've tried him on Star Wars Rebels, but I think he dislikes the animation style - too "uncanny valley" I suspect.
Gravity Falls, Sanjay and Craig, Uncle Grandpa, and Adventure Time (which is probably not really a kids' show but my kids like it).
Gravity Falls and Adventure Time.
Avatar the last airbender
I'd go with Bucky O'Hare (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gL4fWuNd0JA&index=2&list=PLC1EB36A0D10DD9E4).
Oh, sorry, I thought you said 50 years.
Let's see, if you ask my kids some of their favourites are:
Paw Patrol :bleeding:
LEGO Ninjago
Transformers Rescuebots
Star Wars Rebels
All of course are designed around selling toys... :bleeding:
Oh, the latest version of VeggieTales (Netflix exclusive) is a surprising hit around our house as well. :)
None of which helps Malthus in the slightest. ;)
Edit:
Oh Teen Titans Go! is also popular.
You could go for some classics like 90s Batman, Justice League, Avengers, Gargoyles, ...

Actually, he still likes
Lego Ninjago a bit. Though in terms of sophistication, it is light years behind a show like
Gravity Falls (which is easily his favorite).
He's gotten into
Star vs. The Forces of Evil more recently, because it is still ongoing. It looks entirely like a more girl-appropriate "magical princess" show, while being, to a great extent, a deconstruction of what you would normally assume of a Disney princess (the lead character is a cheerful but dangerous maniac, and some of the plots are basically G-rated horror - one in particular we saw the other day was as if David Cronenberg wrote a Disney kid's show :D).

My son is addicted to the Paw Patrol like fucking crack or something. He's all sad & moppy but then it comes on tv & POOF you can actually talk with him. It's like he's a teenager, ffs.
@Malthus, I have no new suggestions to add, my children are still too young & I quebec francophone cartoons are no use to you.
I occasionally watch cartoon network lately.
Adventure Time and Teen Titans are fun.

All my kids were into Paw Patrol about a year ago in a massive way, but Timmy has outdrown it by now. My youngest, Joshua, is still obsessed. There's no way you're going to be talking to him if Paw Patrol is on.

I really liked Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears, and I am not ashamed to say so.

It's older than 5 years, but Avatar the Last Airbender, and its sequel are good.

Graduate to PG13 animated horror and have him watch Modoka Magika instead.
Anybody that exposes their kids to Canadian kids programming should be summarily shot.

Case in point: Caillou.
That whiny little shit.
Lola used to watch some educational show with dogs that had one crippled dog. Found that terribly depressing.
Also, Peppa Pig. WHAT IS THE FUCKING POINT OF THIS?
Shitty Aussie shit.
That's British, isn't it?

It comes from a retarded commonwealth country. So I just picked one.

Lifting and pulling and flying so high
Building a building up to the sky
You can watch them all day and never know why
They're mighty machines
British kids shows have always seemed very quaint (bordering on disturbing) to me. Most of them felt like a fucking Downton Abbey reenacted by animals and shit.

How it is different from G.I Joe, Transformers, Masters of the Universe, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors etc. back in the day? :P
Adventure time. A spectacular achievement. Not really a kids show but enjoyed by kids sometimes. :)
My 3 y old daughter currently is in her Mickey/Elza phase and a Disney Jr. Addict. Loves Frozen & Mickey MOuse Club House and Princess Sophia.
She had also a phase with Masha and the Bear a Russian cartoon. I've to say I also liked that one till it was killed due to overplay for my daughter.

Heh, part of the charm of
Star vs. The Forces of Evil is that the weirdness is totally unexpected from a
Disney "magical princess" kid's show. You expect that sort of thing from Japanese shows to a greater extent. Though I admit, as far as anime goes,
Modaka Magika sounds like something he might like - when he's a bit older.

There's the new Voltron series on Netflix. Maybe your kid will like that. I didn't, but I'm not exactly the target either... ;)
