Does anybody here have experience using a decent free OCR? I need to scan some paper documents and turn them into word.

OneNote has built-in OCR support, and from personal experience, it's surprisingly reliable. I wouldn't try to submit tax forms with an unedited scan, but it won't take a ton of time to correct errors, either.

Evernote also does an OCR pass when cleaning up pictures of a printed sheet in the iPhone/iPad app, but the scanned text is only to index the note for searchability- the document stays a photo in the note itself.
