All purely theoretical of course. Though I chose cities with a decent chance of worthwhile employment one never knows where a job might appear.
Plus of course I already have a job here (hi company spies )
I've been thinking to arrange my thoughts into more of a proper pros and cons list. But I'm just not that sad or energetic.
Best to live in, or best to live in for you?

Barcelona. Good climate, good connections, good food, interesting language to learn (Spanish, not Catalan), but it is comparatively low income, especially compared to Zurich or wherever you are now.
Also, a fortune cookie this weekend told me, "Wherever you move, you always take yourself with you."
It's true...I haven't been able to leave myself behind yet.
Oh, and of course: Vienna.

Ozurgeti, Georgia.
London. Financial centre, lots of huge corporations, good pay, English language, happiest place on Earth, your home.
Move back to Japan. Or Ozurgeti.

Yeah. I kind of got stuck between two ideas there didn't I.
And shouldn't have included that last option.
Oh well. Not a serious poll

You can simply let the market decide. Apply for jobs everywhere. Pick the offer with the highest after tax pay.

That's what landed me in the most boring country on earth surrounded by francophones.
Now I've got a bit of experience I hope I can be a little more discerning.

No thanks. There are enough northerners here already whining on about how you could buy the whole of Sunderland for the price of a cupboard in Thamesmead and how unfriendly everyone is.
Obviously being you, you should move to London :P
Also probably the best option, seriously.

On the other hand, all the Northerners I know who have been here for a bit have giving up those moany ways in relation to that issue. Now we just fight about what side of the Thames. :D
Real estate prices in Barcelona are booming crazily too. I was thinking of moving back into the city, but I have given up.
I guess it's still cheaper than most cities in that list though.
Paris.
America. Just to see how'd you'd react :D
On up.
Based entirely on where I'd like a Languish meet, Amsterdam.

Can't we 'easily' just plan that? Can't be too much in cost to pop over.
Easily in quotes given how easy it is to arrange for just in London. :P
Cape Town or Jo'burg it would give fun aars to read.

I'd be down for an Amsterdam languish meet. It's very affordable to get there from BCN.
The United States of America
Edinburgh. You love to complain and there is so much to complain about up there.
write in vote for Sunderland :D
Edinburgh is the Sunderland option. Would be perfectly able to pop home to see the game on the weekend ;)

The option of last resort.
It has some advantages of officially being part of Britain thus having decent food and doctors. And it becoming ever more international is nice. But generally no, too many cockneys and rahs, too crowded, expensive and dangerous. Too cliche.

I'm not completely averse to that for a short time actually if I had a job lined up. Some of the more modern/historic (a contradiction that makes sense) cities on the coasts seem decent.
Involves faffing with visas and all that sort of thing though.

Home, you should move home.
The Eternal Anglo continues his unhappy wanderings :(
This needn't have happened if the Trent Affair had been handled appropriately.
