POLICE are on high alert after an explosion rocked Malmo, Sweden just two hours after a gun attack left several people injured.
Witnesses reported hearing 20 gunshots during a football derby at around 7pm local time.
One eyewitness claimed the shots were fired by people in an Audi which drove off at high speed.
Police found shell casings at the scene in Censorgatan and say the suspects may have escaped by moped.
Officers said four people were shot in the attack and they are treating the incident as attempted murder.
Witnesses told Sweden's Expressen newspaper the shots were fired in bursts of three rounds, suggesting that it is automatic weapon used in the shooting.
Local media say one person has been shot in the head.
Police confirmed the situation is ongoing in an area in the south of the city.
Police spokesman Ewa-Gun Westford said: "We have an ongoing operation in the area and have a confirmed shootings with more than one injured.
"More we do not know because we are in the midst of it.
"Because it happened during a football derby between Malmö FF and Helsingborgs IF in town, there are many policemen on duty in Malmo tonight."
A police helicopter in the area for the football match has now been deployed to search for the suspects.
Several loud bangs were heard and witnesses told The Local that two people were then carried away to cars, which then fled the scene.
One witness said: "The feet were sticking out of the car windows."
An explosion rocked the outskirts of the city at around 9pm local time.
The bomb squad and security officers have been sent to the blast in Heleneholm, just half a mile away from the scene of the shooting.
It is unclear if the shooting and explosion are connected or if they are terror-related.
Bomb disposal officers have reportedly blown up a suspicious device outside a school in the northern city of Gothenburg this evening fuelling fears Sweden is under attack.
The shooting comes two months after a gunman opened fire in a shopping centre in Malmo, shooting a man in the leg.
Gun crime is common in Malmo, with much of it believed to be gang-related.
Police stepped up patrols in the area following a spate of grenade attacks last summer.
Europe has been shaken by a series of violent attacks on civilians in Germany, France and Belgium over the past 18 months. Many of the attacks were claimed by the Islamic State militant group.
Malmö won, 2-0 against Helsingborg, so everything is okay.

Turns out the school is about 1 km from our house, go figure. It is not reported to have anything to do with anything else.
Damn those lax Swedish gun control laws.
