For those not in the know, this is a cool site where you can pledge to donate a certain amount of money monthly to an artist:
https://www.patreon.com/
Great to support all kinds of artists, especially those who do not produce easily sellable goods, such as visual artists and the like.
I currently support two with a modest sum.
Currently supporting two as well. Small indie text games I enjoy. :)
I give donations to two or three content producers I like. I don't do monthly donations.
If I like their stuff I buy it. If I don't I don't.
I'm opposed to supporting art.
I don't donate, especially not to artists.
This is just subtle way to brag about how much money you have right.

I don't know. I mean there are former buzzfeed folk who also get people to donate them money through this. I doubt the people funding them are wealthy.

Not really, my donations are about $15 per artist, so $30 per month in total. Nothing to brag about.
Is it a good site for deviant perverts.

I have a theory that most humble brag accusations come from people who are actually jealous :hmm:
why would someone humbly brag? why not just brag if the person is the type to brag?
No shit I'm jealous.
I support the Human fund.
I support the Monoriu fund.

Meh, the internet is full of examples of fetish porn work commissioned by fans. I'm sure Marti has plowed plenty of money into his collection over the years.

No. This idea is so strange and icky.

Don't do Patreon but I have kickstarted a variety of art projects (mostly from friends, I admit).
For a minor donation to my PayPal account, I will draw any number of custom erotica scenes with stick figures. Your fantasies are limited only by your imagination and my lack of skill!
We need to see some samples first.
I am only a few clicks away from more free porn than I can ever watch. I see no reason to pay anybody for it :P
Damn, why can't these people just silently suffer in lonely garrets? :bowler:

lol, not that part. Feels like artificially sustaining worthless pursuits.
Aren't we supposed to be good little capitalists? What happened to the market deciding?
Err, it's the market deciding. I enjoy what they do so I value that enjoyment at what I contribute to them.
Voluntary artistic patronage is quintessentially capitalistic.

Having yourself photoshopped into the background with the Apostles like a low-level Borgia by some graphics design undergrad Millennial at VanEyck@deviantart for bitcoin is not going to save your soul from all that uncircumsized European cock through the years, and it's certainly not going to make you the absurd elitist you so want to be.

Good thing I don't do anything of that sort, then.

I'm not sure I get this. Is there something particularly problematic with servicing uncut cock vs cut?

Eh it is just passing the hat after you entertain the masses. It does not offend the Gods of Capitalism in any way :P

Uncut Euro cock = Royale with Cheese. On account of the metric system.

While there is a chance they might not properly clean, as men are gross when given allowance, I can tell you that has yet to be a problem for me. Now maybe that happens with all those cocks you suck of Euros who make it to B'more but I doubt that's the typical experience.
Well, well. Mee-oww.

It is the market.
Someone makes some art (or otherwise cuts a figure in the imagination of at least a subset of the public). If enough people decide to support them, that person continues to make art in that vein. Often, they adjust the direction of their art to address the desires of their customers.
If no one cares (or not enough, anyhow) the artist gets no money and most likely gives up or changes direction after a bit.
That's pretty much the market deciding.

Sorry, didn't mean to out you like that.
To come completely clean and for whomever (aka Seedee) it may concern, none of the artists I support does deviantart style homo art (none of them is gay either).
One is a chick who does (de)motivational online comic strips/cartoons. I find her style funny and I want her to continue to do so as it brightens my day (the physical piece of art I got from that thing is a sock-puppet cat :P).
The other is a guy who is about the age of my mom (who had me at the age of 32), married (to a woman) with a kid, and writes books I enjoy (I have 4 of them on my shelf) and also records music (that I don't enjoy that much but want to support him).

Well yes, that is the "traditional" way. Musician put out an album, people buy a cd or pay to download.
How I understood this patronage concept is you pay people so they can pursue their art without having to market it, sell it etc.
Did I misunderstand? The website is confusing (to me).

Well yeah, but from what I understand most successful people with patreon supporters put out some sort of recurring free product - say a webcomic or podcast or whatever - which everyone can access. So they still provide a product that people consume, and they very much market in that patreon supporters often get stuff - or access to stuff - that regular followers do not (i.e. maybe they get earlier access to the weekly comic, or a signed drawing or something). However, the free recurring offering is one of the key components in securing patreon supporters.
That said, I suppose there are some (plenty of?) people who manage to get money for promising stuff rather than delivering, but I think (hope) that that is less common and/or successful.

In fact I would go on to say that the very inherent nature of capitalism presupposes the existence of the mecenate, the patronage of arts, spending money on luxury and fine arts by those who can afford it. The miser and the penny pincher is the very antithesis of capitalism.

Or in other words, the amassing of capital is the antithesis of capitalism. :hmm:

Well right. They produce free shit you like and you give them money so they can continue to make free shit. As I said it is like a street performer passing the hat.
