BioWare, the publisher of such excellent titles as the Dragon Age & Mass Effect franchises have announced they would be shutting down their fully owned discussion forums.

The official line is that they wish to 'engage with (our) beloved fans on new platforms/medias' ... referring to stinking, festering sores like tumblr, Facebook and Twitter. This is a massive bummer.
Surely it's possible to set up an independent forum for exiles from a game company forum?
Don't be silly, and stop calling me surely.

Like we did? What's most amusing is the reason most often invoked to close BSN is that those forums were too 'toxic'. Anyone who hasn't visited Languish doesn't know what toxic is.
G.
Languish isn't remotely a cesspool. Check out any set of Youtube comments, the RSP Forum (https://boardgamegeek.com/forum/14/boardgamegeek/religion-sex-and-politics) on BGG or any mostly unmoderated area of the Internet. We're positively civilized in comparison.
Developers of Real Racing 3 several years ago closed their forums for maintenance. It was under maintenance for a couple of months before the company probably concluded that whatever massive maintenance they were doing must've permanently damaged their forums. All the references to the forum were removed from the site and the game.
It may or may not have been the case that unceasing criticism of the downright extortionate freemium model on the forums led to the need for such a comprehensive maintenance.

As did I.

I'm disinclined to acquiesce to their request. I'll likely past on their next games.
Looking at it, it's unlikely Bioware will continue for long as a distinct entity inside EA. I'm guessing they'll complete the full merge with EA. Let's face it, forums can be tedious to maintain. On Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, somebody posts crap, it's not your problem. On FB or Twitter, users will report it, it will be taken down, the account suspended. On their own forum, they need to do it themselves, hire their own people (mods) to supervise it. They've already removed tech support from their forums, so it's utility was divided in half. If somebody posts racists shit on Reddit, it's not EA's problem, it's Reddit's problem and they don't care much.
Where will all the Waifu Warriors go now? That board contained them. Now they have been released into the wild.

Well when I stopped going to those forums they were already stinking festering sores anyway. Not that I will be interacting with them on Twitter or Facebook or Tumblr. Jesus Christ.
