I'll be working the whole day, as the current project is behind schedule. Time and a half for holiday work.
Anyone got cool plans?
I will be enjoying the blessings and bounty of American liberty with video games, porn, war movies, job applications and perhaps more porn.
I will be at work, like proper Americans are doing.
;)
I'm in Sri Lanka, another republic that threw off Her Majesty's yoke. Yet it is not the Homeland. I've now spent 4 of the last 6 Independence Days abroad.

God bless America
The US Embassy in Paris had its 4th July party last week.
One of my last memories of the US is the 4th of July party in Central Park, with the fireworks over the river (I left on the 7th).
Happy birthday.
This day will be observed as it has been for some ten years now, mourning the fall of Vicksburg and the humbling setback in Pennsylvania.

Is this 1873?
It is such a paradox, that we celebrate our independence from the UK won 240 years ago, but the UK just won its independence a couple weeks ago.
Celebrated Euro-American 4th of July on Saturday. Kicking out the British is something we can all get behind. :bowler:

No. No we really didn't.
I am not working. This is unusual for me. I work in a very nice, brand new restaurant which I helped open. The chef owner is immensely talented, fastidious and thoughtful. We are closed for a friends and family 4th of July celebration and there is a whole roast pig. Chef is so good at cooking it's retarded, so I'm excited to eat the pig.
I shall be taking my lovely girlfriend, who is lovely and my son. I shall rescue my son from the clutches of his mother shortly. After the meal at the restaurant we are all going to walk downtown to watch the fireworks.
I'm really thrilled about all of this.
Happy 4th! :)

Happy 240th Birthday America!
Just another great 4th with the family though my youngest son is still terrified of fireworks so this is the worst day of the year for him. I went to the community party last night and it was nice to see all the Indian immigrants there. I guess celebrating independence from the UK is something they can get behind.
I've been here too long. Only remembered about the 4th on Dominion day. :weep:

Actually I recall it because of the Canadian employees being off work / I always rant about how Canada couldn't even manage to pick its own month. Had to glom on to America's. <_<

QuoteJuly 4 message from Putin to Obama: Let's have better ties
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday in a July Fourth message to President Barack Obama that he hopes ties between the two countries will get back on track.
Relations between Moscow and Washington hit a post-Cold War low in 2014, when Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula and threw its weight behind separatists in eastern Ukraine. The Kremlin, however, has recently sought rapprochement with the United States.
In the Independence Day message released by the Kremlin, Putin recalled the history of Russia-U.S. ties, saying that at one time the two countries were able to solve "the most difficult international problems to the benefit of both our nations and all humankind." Putin expressed hope that this experience will help the two countries get back to working together.
Elsewhere in Moscow, a youth wing of the ruling United Russia party staged an impromptu exhibit on a central square to condemn U.S. military involvement in other countries. The Young Guard activists put up easels with the portraits and quotes of former world leaders that the activists claim were toppled by the United States, like Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych or Libyan President Moammar Gadhafi.
"Under its current leadership, the United States has become a parasite state that attacks other countries under any pretext, violating their sovereignty, causing revolutions, using military force, killing civilians and their destroying statehood," activist Denis Davydov said. "We call on the United States on the Independence Day not only to preserve their own independence but also respect the independence of other countries."
Putin officially is not a United Russia member despite having canvassed for the party in the past. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has been recently announced as party leader for the upcoming parliamentary campaign.

After a ten year stint of utter bullshit I am happy to report that I have been formerly married for 7 long happy years. Long may it continue. :)

I have day off only because of which day of week it falls on this year.
But if course it is pouring rain so slipping parade and doubt much of a BBQ that co workers planned will be happening.
I gotta work an overnight shift starting at 2200 so I been sleeping most of the day and just got up.
I'm enjoying a quiet day at work. Our American partners are all out of the office, so it's pleasantly low pressure today :)

it is not the correct name. Since 1982, it is officially known as Canada Day. And that's much better than "Colonial Day". We're a full country now, for nearly 35 years ;)
3 reasons why the American Revolution was a mistake (http://www.vox.com/2015/7/2/8884885/american-revolution-mistake)

On the underhand the US could have enjoyed the joys of living like Ireland for 240 years.
