Poll
Question:
On balance, do you like Rick Gervais's comedy?
Option 1: Yes
votes: 17
Option 2: No
votes: 11
So I have always found him to be one of the funniest comedians who work in English language and was surprising to learn so many people hate him so much. Hence the poll.
A qualified 'yes'. I found the British version of the Office to be rather dull, partly cause I couldn't make out a lot of what Gervais was saying. However, I've seen him do good bits while hosting awards shows and the like, and Extras was alright.
I guess I meant his stand up and the like more.
I've seen 3 of his stand up shows and liked them all very much.

Same. The one with the kids book about Noah's Ark is hillarious.
Eurocomedy :yuk:

That's definitely one I remember, another one is the story about the fat woman masturbating at a open air concert.
Ricky Gervais may not be the most terminally unfunny British Comedian out there but he comes close.
Admittedly, I haven't seen his stand-up shows but his "Comedy" creations such as "The Office" are universally terrible.

Have you seen Life's Too Short? His funniest series imo.
I voted no, though I did like him at first, when he was meeker. I wanted to vote so-so.
I used to love listening to him in his podcasts with Karl Pilkington. If you haven't heard those, listen. HBO did a short lived cartoon series based on them. But I only like those shows because of Karl, more so than Ricky.
I just kinda got tired of his shtick after a while. I do think the Noah's Ark routine is funny.
So far, only surprised with Caliga's opinion.
No, he isn't funny at all.
I like him. Shouldn't I?
His stand-up is great.
Really don't like the office.
I do like his other stuff.
Ok in controlled doses. He's what the Guardian would joke about if it incarnated as a living avatar.

Yes that was excellent.
Most of the rest of his work I can take it or leave it.

I am not sure. SJWs hate his guts.
I quite liked Derek, actually. Not everyone's thing, I suppose though.

Earning their ire is not very difficult these days. ^_^
He's always very careful to define the frame of what is 'morally' good and bad in his comedy, before delivering any joke. Always very right-on. But it's ok for the audience to laugh because they are all on the same page; they all know he is one of them.
He can be a bit of a dick on the shows where Karl Pilkington travels around the world.

No, I agree. I like his comedy a lot. I am just saying that there is now a lot of morons on the internet who think any joke about Caitlyn Jenner or about rape makes you a monster. Him, Louis C.K. and Bill Maher are probably my favourite comedians active right now.

Yeah and they also hate Joss Whedon. Like most extreme leftists they hate other leftists who are not pure enough more than anybody else.
Don't think ever seen any of his standup.
Never seen his standup. Saw a bit of that animated podcast thing. Not very funny. The chav was the best part of that show. Seen two romcoms in which he plays a dentist. OK, nothing to write home about.

Yes.
Yeah for the most part, I guess.
Aside from Extras, no. There's only so much mileage you can get out of comedy from being a cunt, and he's reached that limit.
Not particularly. Also what's Marty's deal with SJW? Once gay rights seemed secure did he just decide "well fuck everyone else".

Gay rights are hardly secure, at least in Poland. But I value personal liberty and right now SJWs (and the social tendencies they embody) are a bigger threat to it than homophobes are, and I find myself disagreeing with them on almost every issue.
Clearly behind the curve, what the fuck is a SJW?

Yes.
Yes, although I don't particularly like Derek or the stuff with Karl.
