I finally decided to call it quits and retire after 25 years in the Army. Going on terminal leave next week.
Now I have to get a real job.
Congratulations, and best of luck, Hans. What sort of civilian job will you be looking for?
Congrats.

You at least get the vet bonus during the hiring process.
 At least take some time off and enjoy the pension first.

Well, at first I was offered a job through some friends working overseas, paying about $1,000 per day, six weeks on, six weeks off. I would have worked with the best of the best in some somewhat dangerous places. Naturally, my wife vetoed it.
Next I was offered a job involving a lot of stateside travel teaching PSYOP and IO, but my wife doesn't like that one either.
Then I was offered a job at Bragg, but I really don't want to work there.
Next I thought I could do something a lot less stressful than my current job, so I looked at becoming a cop (how hard can it be if CdM can do it?), but my wife vetoed that as well.
I'm now looking for a job as a project manager, since that has been essentially what I've been doing for the last decade.

Finally leaving Socialist nirvana? Trying to hack it in the real economy. Gosh, how... brave of you.
Gotta listen to the wife. Don't you have a kid growing up now? It's probably best if you settle down a bit now. Good luck.

Yes, my daughter is now 9 years old. I've been a geographical bachelor for the last two years as I've been working in Virginia Beach while my family is in Raleigh; hence, I now need to listen to my wife.
I'm disappointed you weren't able to fire your boss President Obama.

Good to hear, but dang it seems only like yesterday you child was born. :)
Man it is so good to hear from you Hans
Raleigh eh? I may be by there sometime soon.
Good luck getting your civilian job.
Well, after 25 years in the Army, I hope your IQ recovers, some. :P
Will you update your blog now?

Thanks. Not for quitting - but for the stuff that came before you stepping back.
Try not to let the civvies drive you too insane.
Hansie posts makes me think, there must now be several posters who have or are about to enter Ed Anger style shootgun wielding or policing of their daughter's dates/suitors. :D

Our Oscars loving Languishite marrries them. :)
edit:
I'm half remembering that we had a poster who could officiate as a lay preacher?

Yes, sorry for forgetting his name, I knew it began with an H; indeed he does seem to be another of our MIAs. :(

Apparently I was being too subtle.
CCR became an ordained preacher and officiated a buddy of his wedding.

You weren't, I got that. :P
I was trying to remember Habs, of whom I may or may not have correctly remembered him telling he could officiate.
Congrats!
Heya Hans, good to hear from you! Thanks for your service and best of luck in your next ventures. I'd think have some unique experience that could translate to some interesting jobs, think tanks, etc.
