Is there a free program out there. I was using winzip but the trial period ran out.
Powerarchiver, and just ignore the nagging when it wants you to register.
Oh, you mean really free. No idea.
I use WinRar. If you open the program, it'll ask you to register, but since it's shell-integrated, there's no reason to ever open the program.
7zip, I believe it's even opensource. It's quite nice as you can make it unrar as well.

Yeah it's very useful and there's no nagging messages.
No one has evber paid for Winzip.
7zip and EasyZip are both free. Want to watch it, though- I've gotten corrupted ZIP archives out of both.

Or WinAce. Or WinRar. Or... oh, you get the idea. :P
Windows XP should be able to unzip zip files anyway.

ZIP files, yes. I use WinAce because I mess with a lot of archives that need to be segmented for not-killing-bandwidth purposes.

Well that's terrible. Somebody alert the anti-trust assholes.

Technically, it's a plugin feature included in the same bundle that lets you use Windows Explorer to burn data CDs.
IZarc is free as well and is a universal unzipper like 7Zip.
WinRar... or as stated, if it's a .zip just use Windows.

Winzip trial periods can run out? :s
And who uses that these days anyway, unzipping comes as standard in xp and winzip can't handle rars and all the other weird formats out there.
I like 7-zip.
Thanks guys.

if you are on XP, use Powerdesk, the free version. It includes a ZIP function wich is the best i've ever seen so far.
On Vista, Peazip is supposed to be a little marvel, but I personally hate it.
7-Zip might not be so bad.
7zip is a quite good program. Zip, rar, ace, lhz... I still have to find a compression format it doesn't cover. But 7z, its native compression format, is... peculiar, to say the least; sure, it compresses files quite more than the others, but it is incredibly slow both in compression and decompression.

I am using vista.
All I really need this for is downloading and uploading paradox files during the HOI beta. So far I have been changing programs whenever free trial periods end which is becoming a pain.
AFAIK you can use Winzip for free as long as you are only unzipping files, you only have to pay to compress them
I use 7zip myself.
