Boot computer up. Says CPU fan error. Press F-something to get into something called BIOs? Then save and exit without changing anything. Blue screen. Says hardware error.
If I choose a bootdrive inside the bio-thing, Windows boots up. But the fan gets increasingly loud and crazy, and the CPU gets really hot. Even if I successfully get Windows to work, I can't really do anything. The mouse slows down to a crawl. Nothing loads, not even IE. If I leave it, the computer either depowers itself, or a blue screen takes over. Says uncorrectable hardware error.
I think the only way is to drag it to the shop.
Um, yeah, that doesn't sound good. I'd bring it in.
Yep, bring it in. Possibly just needs a new fan, and maybe some coolant paste. But yeah, overheating can damage your components so I would take care of it a.s.a.p.

It's a fan problem, causing your CPU to overheat, then all sorts of problem.
Drag it to the shop, even in HK, you must have these things called "warranty"? ;) So, have him fixed it for free.

I hope you are right. My assumption is that the motherboard is dead.
And I HATE dragging it to the store. My body disintegrates after the exercise.
No. If the motherboard was dead you wouldn't get as far as you did when you boot up. Like the error message said, your CPU fan failed or is failing.
If something is dead (other then a fan, the likely culprit), it's the CPU.

I am glad someone is carrying on my tradition.
Macs are not compatible with...large scale anime acquisition procedures
Trying to manage the computer people from Taiwan. They say the cooler is dead and will give me a free replacement. :showoff: :showoff:

Replacing the CPU cooler though... it's not the easiest thing in the world.
of course, if the Mac breaks somewher, you have to change the entire box. Much easier. Also more expensive.

It isn't just my lack of physical strength. It is also that we don't have anything good to tie up the box, and we don't know how to make a good knot.
Call a taxi. Put the box on the back seat, right next to you. Ask the taxi to drive you to your shop. Unload the box, explain to the dealer what the problem is, wait for it, or take the taxi back to work. Done, no knots or whatever.

It is a challenge for me to take the box from the flat to the taxi :contract:
Learn to make a knot.

I do use this. But these are kinda useless if stairs are involved. The shop is inside a mall. There are like 15 stair steps along the way
Use a door to door courier service, then.

Use a door to door courier service, then.
1. My wife and I being office workers with 8-8 schedules, it is very difficult for the courier to come pick it up.
2. I want to minimize the length of time I make do without the desktop. Couriers take too much time.
3. They cost money.
I'll just have to drag it myself anyway. In fact I have already done half the journey. It is just waiting for me to fly back to HK from Taiwan to pick up.
One of my work computer died. :(
Since it's the dell cheap crap, I won't try to fix it. On the lap of IT, it goes.
When I dragged the computer across the computer mall a few days ago, I found that I was the centre of attention, and some people offered to help

HKers aren't typical Chinese. We behave somewhere between a typical Chinese and a typical westerner.
DIVINE INTERVENTION. So I went to the computer shop from the airport. Computer was fixed, completely free. I asked them to tie up the box. They said I already had a trolley, why was there a need to make a knot. I said the computer mall had stairs. They were perplexed, and said "why don't you take the lift? No stairs whatsoever."
I was like, so I carried the computer so many times up and down these stairs, all for nothing.
