God, they were such prudes. Living in the Soviet Union must have been really goddamn boring.
Who knows, this may work as a recommendations list the same way a Michelin's restaurant guide works.

Try it. Go listen to all the bands on the list. :goodboy:
My favourite part is "Village People: Violence".
What the fuck?
Ok sorry. Julio Iglesias: Neo-fascism is better. :D

Nah, I have a feeling that they are not my cup of tea. You know the kind of music I like. Besides, I go after individual songs, not bands or albums. Would love to be proven wrong though.
I do have Village People's YMCA in my list. I think that's the only one.

Promoted war mongering and militarism with "In the Navy" ;)

Started his career under General Franco. ;)

Apparently not that well:

I welcome anything with a nice and memorable melody, but I usually don't pay any attention to the lyrics.
The B-52 "Punk and violence".
I don't think the censors actually listened to those bands.

They probably just stopped at the reference to the bomber, not realizing that it's probably more likely the B-52s are named after the drink. Then again, I suppose for the censors, that wouldn't be much better.

Not really, we just enjoyed different things. You could always sit down and read a book, and both of our TV channels were filled with culturally-enriching programming.

Madness as "Punk, violence" too. Bizarre musical tastes, for sure...

Julio Iglesias' dad was an important member of the Spanish Falange (the official fascist party), and held office under Franco, but Julio himself probably never said anything political in his life. Too busy banging women.
I guess Neil Young's Rockin' in the Free World would have been in this list, had the song come earlier.
Stodges? Is that a band I've never heard of, or did they mean Iggy and the Stooges?
For those of you who can't read Russian, Madness is number #3. :lmfao:
I like that (The) Clash was translated back as Klesh on the pink list.
Wait why is 'punk' grounds for banning?

Underground counter culture, I presume.
I like to imagine a country with all the breadth of expression of America and all the centralized control of the Soviet Union. One day!
If only we'd known, we could have blasted Pink Floyd albums non stop over Afghanistan, and it would have single-handedly stopped the Russian advance there. Would have been much better than those mujahadeen, and much less expensive.
BTW, for a minute I though this was current Russian policy. Not that it would surprise me if they did that now.

Also, you could report things told to you in confidence to the authorities. :P
They are right that punk should be enough for a ban.
The oddest is the Pink Floyd entry.
WTH did Pink Floyd have to do with the foreign policy of the USSR in Afganistan? :hmm:

They were pretentious, just like the Soviets in Afghanistan.
I also appreciate that Donna Summer gets "Eroticism" while Tina Turner gets "Sex". :D

I guess.
That's a half decent list of bands.

I have this song in my list. It is composed by Yuki Kajiura, my favourite composer, and performed by Stellar's Japanese voice actress. Not the best singing but it fits the mood. In Chinese/Japanese, the song is named "lonliness deep in the ocean".
Interesting how the word punk is counted as bad on it's own.
And one band have never heard of is banned for gayness but not the village people?
Pretty short list really.
