So I've updated my laptop of six years that wheezed at EU3 with a modern workhorse which can run even EU4 or the Sleeping Dogs demo!
What games have I missed/should I get?
EU IV but you've got that covered.
I think you should get the Sleeping Dogs full game, but I am slightly biased.
And the only game I play with any level of commitment these days is CK2.
CK2.
Tomb Raider is 80% off on steam today. A lot of death sequence porn if that's your thing.

€4? I'll try it.
CK2, X-Com, CivV plus expansions, Football Manager 20XX are the games I've sunk more hours in during the last couple years.

You might be the only person I've ever heard recommended either of those.
Give Commander: The Great War a try.
Also a real gem of a game is Expeditions: Conquistador

I'm special that way ;)
They are both very fun games, if you have the good mods.
Empire is simplistic, Rome is a tad more evolved, but nothing like EU-series, of course. But they are nonetheless extremely fun and they have nice graphics.

Yes, and the "Definitive Edition" was just released on Steam.
All of the above. And get Skyrim.
Yeah, Skyrim is bound to keep you occupied for a long time, if you like Norse fantasy settings and/or Elder Scrolls.
DEFCON is even more awesomer on a 21 x 9 monitor. *cough*

I have been wanting to play it since it came out but I haven't had the time. It looks right up my alley except I have been working so hard through Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion trying to serve the Empire only to have it near collapse like this is a bummer :(
