Was there something you used to be really good at until fun stuff got in the way? I was a straight A student so naturally talented at science my Physics teacher used to call me Einstein until I discovered booze and boys. I can clearly remember feeling noticeably stupider the Monday after the first party I got nasty drunk and kissed a punk boy. A gentleman friend was so talented at Rugby he got a scholarship to play overseas until he discovered beer and girls.
Well yeah. I was ruined the moment I realised that being smart not only lets me get really good grades if I learn, but also to spend very, very little time with learning and still getting through.
Yup, not having to do anything for school and still getting As or Bs made me even lazier than I already was. Which made me too lazy to follow up on any of this.
Definitely. I went from being a promisingly skilled, dedicated Dungeon Master, to the sloppy fat drunk kid who always wanders off in the middle of the Bush party, getting lost for several hours, coming back with tales of moose/wendigo sightings and such.
:P
No. I am lazy but I was always lazy.
Not "really good", no.
back in the day, I almost stopped playing hockey because 1g a day of hash was charring my lungs. so I switched to marijuana (far less tar) and became Guy Lafleur.
fame and fortune followed.
It was more computer games for me than drugs and girls, that didn't come till later.
But the thing about not having to work and getting by OK is more the case I think. I never had any problems with maths until I got to 17 or so- and by then I had no idea how to learn maths, I'd never had to do it. I'd never learned anything I couldn't do (hence my sucking at French at school).
Computer games for me. Spent a ton of time on these. Even now. Almost spent no time studying at all.
But turned out it didn't matter. I am pretty sure I would have ended up in the same job even if I got better grades.

This, we'll see how it affects me this fall.
Now that I think about it, my biggest ambition when I was 5 was to combine a metal detector and a vacuum cleaner, and then grab all the coins at the bottom of wells/pools.
Loaded with 'em, but laziness is the biggest one. Once upon a time, I figured out that I have some unfair advantages in terms of skills and absorbing new concepts, and since then I haven't put any effort into anything except competing with others.

Seriously Mono, you're becoming a caricature of yourself. You can't be serious.
I am lazy as well - but somehow I ended up a lawyer. :(
It isn't really the best profession for the lazy.

Yeah, its like the time he tried to claim his first word was money.
What's the deal with Money anyway? You know what I'm talking about.
Supposedly, that was my second word.

1. Daddy
2. Money
yep sounds about right. :p
Well, I went to the university, learned that drinking and partying was fun, going to school wasn't...and flunked out.
I went back after 2 years and learned that I could go to school and do really good.
Vice ruined nothing, I got my time as a reprobate, and then I learned something - so it worked out for me. Nyah, nyah, nyah.

I was doomed from birth.

Why not? That was my first thought when I asked my dad why the stupid people were throwing coins into fountains. You've got hundreds of millions of people throwing coins into all sorts of water bodies. These add up.

I should have followed your advice.
