Environmental engineers apply engineering principles to the improvement and protection of the environment.  They help protect ecosystems,  water resources, people and animals, from the effects of industry.  They make sure we consider things like temperature changes, chemicals, fires or landscape changes in our technology projects.

When I started my undergraduate degree environmental engineering was part of civil engineering at my alma mater.  So many students were focusing in that area that the university broke it off and made it a separate department.  This was the age of Captain Planet.  A lot of students went into the field thinking they would save the environment only to discover that the bulk of the jobs in the field were in sewage treatment.  Thank you Ted Turner!

Computer engineer, 53%.  Considering I got fed up with our computer systems' (lack of) financial accounting abilities at work and programmed better versions into my graphing calculator that I use instead, it sounds about right.

It's usually called Human Development and Family Studies or Human Ecology today.  No less than Harvard offers a PhD. in the discipline.
