Being in something of a historical strategy gaming mood I find myself wondering whether the newer expansion packs for HoI2 and CK are worth my while. I have HoI2 and Doomsday, and base CK.
Are the new expansion packs worthwhile? Are they well patched? Are there any interesting mods I should be aware of? Oh, and can HoI2 run in widescreen (I know there's a trick for CK, though I think I've lost the link in my latest HD crash)? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Deus Vult is definitely worth it. Armageddon is marginal.
I agree with ulmont.
Armageddon adds little substantial, except "brigades" to ships and "easier" production (as you can produce divisions+brigades together).
Apart from that, it's a alt-hist MP mod that will bring tears of anger to your eyes.

I always wondered "was that the best they could come up with?"
I mean, they could have done an Nazi's vs Imperial Japan for control of the world. That would have been uber cool.
IT HAS TO BE TEH BALANCED!!!! 200 IC FOR EVERYONE!11
DV is certainly worth 10 bucks. get the 0ctober beta patch applied after it's installed.

Except it failed miserably. The Oceanic power (Australia etc., I forget) gets totally boned by the no land-connection manpower penalty, and good luck with anybody finding their resources.
Thanks for the info. Armageddon's $5, Deus Vult is $15 (I missed the $10 sale for CK + DV, sadly).
Has there been more than one beta patch for DV? Any good mods?
TASS and DVIP are the two main mods. They both do similar things although because of the scarcity of resources (e.g. culture and country tags), both largely follow their creators' (one guy runs each) visions/prioritizing. I don't actually run either, so I can't recommend one.
Ok, I also own Vicky and Revolutions, what's the general consensus on VIP?
I recommend VIP. It does somewhat straightjacket the world in event chains, but it helps avoid wildly ahistorical outcomes. And the player has freedom to operate. The split of British India is pretty essential to avoid a massive red tide of endless British infantry. The economy is better balanced IMO.

Sounds good. I see that I'm supposed to install 0.1, then 0.2, then the hotfixes, but the link to 0.1 appears to be dead. Anyone know where I can find it? Also, do I need OHgamer's hotfixes for Vicky:R is I'm planning to run VIP:R?

If you are running VIP, I don't think you need the hotfixes for vanilla revolutions. Just follow the install order in OHgamer's sig. If the link to 0.1 at the Paradox site doesn't work, you can try the dedicated mod site (also in the signature).

The use of a vomit smile is not appropriate on a family forum.
WiF is supposed to make Armageddon harder, and create a more balanced war. It comes closer than the other HOI2 mods, IMO.

Got it. Thanks for your help, TMM.
Faelin: I'll check that out.
I think Armageddon is worth the $5 for the mods that are available for it.
In the limited time i spent with CK I think the in-game ledger and bride finder you get with DV are worth the $15 if nothing else.

Any specific suggestions? I'm only really interested in SP play.

Deus Vult greatly improves Crusader Kings. As for the Armageddon "booster pack", well since the source code has been given out for private developers, the new patches have made Armageddon a prerequisite for a great improvement.
Deus Vult lacks dreadnoughts.
I went straight from base HOI2 to with both packs so can't totally say but...most of the stuff did seem to be with Doomsday.
DV is good though, makes a true sort of CK 1 1/2.
I can't recall ever finding a bride finder with that though...

indeed. it has no navies whatsoever.

page 5 in fact.
Picked up DV, still holding off on Armageddon pending the discovery of a good single player centered mod.

Yeah, even if it is a bit too deterministic. It would have been interesting to see what could have been done if Victoria had EU3's event engine. OHGamer's working on the Vic source code, though, so perhaps we'll see that eventually.

I"ve heard good things about Kaisserreich: Legacy of the Great War.
I've heard likewise for HOI: WIF
Still have to test them though.
Have been plaing mod 34: it's pretty good so far, though it suffers from broken english.

OMG my pants are a greater-hungary factory.
I tried Kaisserreich: Legacy of the Great War in a fit of boredom. Even went through the hassle of the mod manager thing.
Wasn't really worth it. Everybody mostly just sat there while events fired and forced the AI to do stuff.

That was also my experience. It was fun for a bit, but the fact that there never seemed to be a "world war" of any note was just silly. The only wars I ever ended up having were Germany vs. France/Britain/Italy--wherein France was eventually overrun.
The 2nd Civil War for the USA is also pretty stupid.

You can have a fun game as Germany early on though. An early war with France, Italy and Poland can be pretty tough.
it's good to hear some other opinions on that. HAdn't tried it yet.
From what I gathered it seems more like a story that is told rather than a real WW

Ahh right.
The pink posting - well he's gay, isn't he? Not meaning to stereotype or anything, but isn't pink (or purple?) the colour for gay pride?
PINK is in fact the colour of elephants when one is sniffing ether.

Is that offensive? Sorry if so. I just thought that perhaps the reason for that choice of colour was due to that, another indication, as it were? I don't know his reasoning, I was just suggesting what I thought it might be. But again, sorry if you got offended by that, though I did say I wasn't meaning to stereotype.
