A light beer is their favourite? What is this, Sweden?
Title: Re: America's favorite beers

Well, the graphic claims Blue Moon is America's favorite beer, and Blue Moon is not a light beer.

But that seems to me that is just based on it being voted the favorite in the greatest number of States, but a lot of those States are very low population.

If we were counting by electoral votes it would've been:

Blue Moon: 178
Coors Light: 18
Sam Adams: 67
Corona: 59
Yuengling: 98
Bud Light: 108
Miller Lite: 10

So Blue Moon still would get the largest share even going roughly by population (as EV is the quickest proxy I can create without actually using real population numbers and just playing around with "make your own Electoral College" maps online.) So non-light beers would get 402 EVs, light beers would only get 136.

Schlitz we got in the tall cans, the way Artie Donovan said God intended.

There was a fad for Colt 45 and some other similar US beers in the UK back in the seventies, they came in 440ml cans IIRC and were reasonably cheap as this was an active attempt to break into the British market. I think they came in a couple of years after the "Red Revolution" which introduced Watney's red barrel to an unimpressed public.............market share must have seem ripe for the picking; Harp lager, a rather feeble lager made by Guinness was also grabbing market share at the time. Most of these not great beers were later swamped by the revival of real ales and imported beers from the Continent.

Think of them as percentage probabilities.

For example, a 1-1 (even money) bet means the probability is around 50% of either outcome.

If you bet 2-1, that means a 66.6% probability.

3-1 = 75%.
4-1 = 80%.

And so on and so forth.

I also recall red stripe, dreadful stuff, which I think must have been a UK invention ?

I looked it up, Red stripe is from Jamaica, well I guess it's western hemisphere and 'foreign'

I've never had anything bad from them. Their holiday stuff, in particular, is tasty as hell. And the milk stout is good in the right place, just like anything else. I usually have it late at night, relaxing with friends. It's a good end-of-the-day drink, imo.

Beer in the 70s and 80s was generally awful, fizzy, weak, tastless piss. Harp, Hofmeister, Coors etc. Our generic crap beers are the same as American crap generic beers.

Fortunately in both countries taste has returned and there are some fantastic beers of lots of different types around.

Oh, I like a good sour ale, too, but I have to have them with a solidly acidic meal, like lasagna or something like that.

Beer, to me, is a lot like wine. With so many different varieties, you can drink the right beer with the right foods and circumstances. To just sit around and drink with friends when watching a game or something like that, generally I prefer Sam Adams or a good hard cider. The more specialty (ie expensive stuff) I'll try to pair with the right kinds of foods because I'm likely to only have one or two of them at a time.

I was a huge fan of Yuengling back when I lived in Delaware-- it could be had for $4.50/6-pack & I liked the way it tasted.  Spending several years out of their distribution area (didn't make it to Ohio until a couple years ago), I had sort of forgotten what it tasted like.  Now when I taste it, whatever adjuncts they use (either corn or rice-- probably corn) bug the hell out of me.

I still like the Black & Tan, though.
