Title: Spaniards, I humbly request assistance
Post by: Baron von Schtinkenbutt on July 11, 2013, 10:46:46 AM
I am attempting to develop an algorithm that can distinguish Mexican Spanish from Peninsular Spanish.  Being in Texas, I am awash in Mexican Spanish sources.  Trouble is, I can't find any Peninsular Spanish sources.  My understanding is the big Spanish papers use "broadcast" Spanish that avoids as much as possible regional language differences.  Are there any freely-available sources of documents or articles that are written specifically in Peninsular Spanish?  Based on my understanding of the language differences, I want to avoid Andalusian sources since they will likely be in some sort of halfway state between them.

Government documents are OK, but I don't want to rely on them.  A regional daily that writes for locals and has a website would be great.

This is my local rag of reference:

http://www.farodevigo.es/ (http://www.farodevigo.es/)

And this is the biggest regional newspaper:

http://www.lavozdegalicia.es/ (http://www.lavozdegalicia.es/)

Anyway, I'm not aware of huge differences in "newspaper Spanish" depending on where the paper comes from. It's all pretty neutral.

Is it true that people in Galicia don't take showers/baths?

If you need more regional papers I can find more for you. ;)

Also, if you want government documents, you can knock yourself ouf with the BOE (Boletín Oficial del Estado), it's published almost daily and you can get more Spanish legalese than you can handle with it.

This is the link (http://www.boe.es/diario_boe/ (http://www.boe.es/diario_boe/)) and this is the latest issue (http://www.boe.es/boe/dias/2013/07/13/ (http://www.boe.es/boe/dias/2013/07/13/))
