Not.
I guess I'd say I generally take it as a compliment. To be offended would be bizarre given the contents of my bookshelves. :D
Indifference.
Fucking furious.
Languish has shown me that my interest in history isn't particularly strong.

The olympics showed me I'm not a very fast runner :contract:
Not appropriate. Not because i don't enjoy history, but because nerd to me connotes obsessive interest in a niche subject-to the exclusion of other interests-and membership in an exclusionary, social out-group.
I'd take it like a man.

You should PM this to Marti, "this is how to do an analogy" :D

Same here, turns out I have only a passing interest in the subject.
Oh and guy thanks for the responses/votes so far.
I have a solid interest in the subject of passing.

Well yes that's the reason someone might call someone a <insert blank> nerd but that doesn't mean that it is actually true. Often just lobbed at what a person thinks is an overly intellectual interest.
My next poll question will be:
"Is History the New Rock'n'Roll?"
I like that old time rock n roll. :)

Black achievements hijacked by whitey? Yeah sure.
I would prefer if people called me a "History Jock".

Well yes, I do know about anal sex but I'm not sure why that means I'd know about juvenile jokes.

Agreed, I dont really know what The Brain was trying to say there.
Its bad. I'm a history geek, not a history nerd, I still have social competance...sort of.

Interesting, maybe I should test/poll on using history geek?
What are peoples reaction to 'history geek' ?

Exact same as history nerd.
Amazed that this thread got turned into a semantics discussion. If you actually have an argument as to whether or not you fit the narrow technical definition of a nerd or geek, you might just be a redneck.

I think in Josq's case it would be very pale but covered in dirt.
Pretty much what garbo said. A quick glance at my bookshelves would make any denial on my part absurd.
People will claim geekness over anything these days.
Like "movie geeks". WTF? that's about as pop culture as it comes. What's next, music geeks? sports geeks?
Quote from: Maximus on June 30, 2013, 03:42:29 PM

Well we already have band geeks.
:yeahright:
We would have more health, wealth, and happiness if more people were history nerds.
