Gaddafi wasn't in the battle voluntarily, AFAIK, he was just chased down.

His son took over, so if it was a coup it was done by him rather than any alternate factions in the military.

The last European Head of State to be killed in battle is Charles XII.

That is the only time this happened in the Americas I think,

But in the chaotic world of post-Imperialism Africa is this really the first time this has happened?
