Merry Christmas everyone.

Most of the family is sick and stayed home. More than enough food at least, I guess.

I was thinking of starting a Xmas loot thread in honour of Ed Anger, but this thread can be multi-purpose, right?

Thankfully the family got the message that I didn't want hardly anything and finally they delivered. So I'm rather please I don't have to deal with too much junk and stuff to recycle/give away. :-)

So what did you people get and give this Xmas?

Got a Roomba :w00t:
Gave my daughter a dino chair which she really enjoyed
Got my wife a foot massager, which she's been hinting at for a couple of years

Merry Christmas everyone. :)

I am at the in-laws in Poland and in true East European fashion have consumed more alcohol at the various family visits than in the rest of the year combined. Plus ate a lot. Good times.

Yes. Always think of that Bismarck line that the most important fact of the 20th century is that the US speaks English. I think it's still one of the most important facts from a British perspective and explains a lot about Britain.

India also speaks English. So does lots of Africa. So nice job evil empire.

The past and the future seem secure for English as the world's second language.

Yeah I have to say the key factor in me moving to Britain in particular was that I already had to learn the lanugae to pursue my nerdy hobbies. :p

When I was growing up the Scottish government decided that all primary school teachers would learn French. The problem was the vast majority of primary school teachers didn't know French. There were lots of inset days for a year or two. Looking back I realise it was all of the primary school teachers doing exactly one lesson ahead of what they were teaching kids.

I don't think the number of Scottish kids (or teachers) who can actually speak French has actually increased much since then
