Some day sure.
So Mirror focuses on how the leaked map looks like a ninja turtle.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technology-science/technology/gta-v-grand-theft-auto-2268273
While The Desert Sun (paper in Palm Springs) focuses on how the Palm Springs tram and Salton sea appear to be in the game.

So glad this is coming out soon. Currently, a lot of Manhattan (particularly in the village) is one big GTA V ad. :D

I've noticed that of the UK reviews I've read, all seem to want to focus on the immorality/non-sympathetic nature of all the leads. Not sure why that's an issue.

Honestly found GTAIV boring as hell. It was like a Dguller simulator. Loved GTAIII and Vice City. Vice City was probably my favorite.
I didn't think I'd enjoy San Andreas. "I don't want to play as a black guy" I said.
I enjoyed the heck out of it.
I said something similar about GTA4 but had a lot of fun with it too.
I'm expecting a lot from GTA5 and looking forward to when they release the MP component.
According to the cashiers, last night best buy decided to re-org store. PS3 games are now available only in an aisle facing cashiers, which you can't see unless you are at cashiers.
Also because I guess of midnight kids excited this morning, you had to go to cashier to personally ask for a copy of GTAV. What is this, Gamestop? :yucky:
Okay how could one dislike driving through Los Santos listening to Snoop Dogg's "Gin & Juice" and then Eddie Murphy's "Party All The Time"?

Bought this and played through a bunch of missions. The driving feels is arcadey but feels right, the shooting is solid, and the world they created is hilarious. Michael is my favorite character so far.
Jumped onto a moving train as Franklin and rode it through half of the island, shot the train conductor dead so now the train is running out of control. I jumped off before I could see any of the mayhem.
Switched over the Michael who was chilling on the pier, decided to ride the Ferris wheel, then chased after a woman with my knife shouting insults at her because she said something vaguely insulting to me. Murdered her in front of twenty people and fled the cops on foot. Right after that went on a date with the wife, my hands still covered in a woman's blood, got drunk at a bar and drove her back to the shopping center still piss drunk when she started talking about how she would give the pool boy a blowjob.

Michael's life is so terrible it actually makes me laugh. His family is a caricature of the fear of every middle-aged suburban has-been and he's just looking for something to make his life interesting again. When he
mistakenly destroys a Mexican drug lord's house because he thought that slimy wife-sleeping pool boy lived there I was in stitches.
Talks matter. But it needs to be continual conversation supplemented with education and training.

Presumably their smart phone would let them look up applicable videos. So not as interactive but still I think the same content.
That said in general, I think you are right. Many parents aren't doing a lot of monitoring.

I've noticed there seem to be a lot of non-game breaking bugs. I've had cars merge somewhat into sidewalks, passengers who are stuck in cars and I can't pull them out unless killing them, cars suddenly appearing out of thin air and the car I'm in suddenly "falling" when I'm on a flat road among others. :D
This game is really polished but obviously they can't get rid of every single possible bug, thankfully. The game wouldn't be as fun without some wacky bugs. It's GTA goddamnit. :P

Certainly, but I think those are two separate issues. There are kinds of things on the internet that children (and adults for that matter) should not be searching out or viewing. That is an issue of educating our children.
Buying this game for a child is a parent giving their permission to the child to view and enteract with the material. That is why I, and you, both think that parents are not really aware of what is in this game.

Until late game, the stats page showed that Trevor was my most used character. :P

Also, while I found it enjoyable, it seemed...short. I don't often finish games (particularly in the GTA series) let alone within a week of them coming out while holding down a job & social life. :D
Though maybe part of that was also that unlike in prior GTA iterations, there weren't any missions here that were super frustrating because of the controls.
I played the first 2 days non-stop and haven't really picked it up since to be honest. At the part where they took the drug lords wife and got bored, think around 60%.
Not that it isn't great, just motivation to do it lacking at the moment.

Maybe you all just drive around aimlessly? I liked the game but it felt short / makes it the only entry in GTA series that I ever finished.
I do have a habit of messing around in between missions. That's the reason I've never actually finished the story missions in any GTA.
I really like the stories and characters in this one though, so I will be playing it to completion. Maybe even 100%.
I thought messing around sandbox-style was the entire point of the GTA games' appeal.

In this one the entire region is unlocked once you complete the prologue mission, which takes about five minutes. :o

I feel like there is a lot of emptiness in this one. There is a lot of land where there are pretty much no people whatsoever. After getting over the awe of the digital architecture, I moved on. :D
Also, I'll note that such has little comment on whether the game itself is short with reference to the missions. ;)
I get a Red Dead Redemption vibe from this game, which is a good thing IMO. There's a lot of empty space in the countryside but even that is still intricately detailed. I'm just driving a dirt bike instead of plodding along on a horse.
Also Red Dead Redemption didn't have attack helicopters and sharks.
Online is pretty fun actually. You also get story type missions so that's good.

1) HOLY CRAP, WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME JESCO WHITE IS IN THIS??? He's not only the Rebel Radio DJ, but you can find him dancing & singing on the north/west shore of the lake in Sandy Shores. Complete awesomeness. As a bonus, they have a Hasil Adkins song on Rebel Radio. Lincoln County, WV FTW.
2) It does have a certain Red Dead Redemption vibe to it. I swear sometimes when I finish a mission or challenge and I am on foot my first thought is to call my horse. Thankfully when you hunt, you only have to take pictures of the animal rather than skinning it. Skinning animals in RDR accumulated some painful downtime after a while.
3) I hated Trevor at first but he's sort of growing on me now. And his mutual attraction to Mrs. Martinez was hilarious. And his insecurity over being Canadian makes for some good recurring humor.
4) Everyone in the game talks about how old, fat, and run-down Michael is. He looks pretty normal to me
5) Bootsy is a DJ on one of the other stations, which is almost as awesome as having Jesco in the game. But overall the music is a bit weak. Possibly the weakest since they started having "real" music. As much as I hate paying for add-ons, I'd buy more songs to add to the existing lineup. I saw a list of songs that were cut from the game and think they erred on cutting many/most of them.
6) Takes a little time to get used to switching between 3 characters. But I like the way they do the transitions.
7) Seems easier to get killed unless you're lucky enough to find cover and aren't surrounded. Also harder to get rid of the cops sometimes if you have 3 cars right on your ass. But it's a bit easier to avoid cops & lose your wanted level if you hadn't been spotted yet.
8) I suck at investing in the stock market. IF I invest correctly before/after an assassination or whatever, I forget to sell when the share price peaks.
9) No Vegas? Boo.
10) Seems to be less focus on racing, also none of that dating shit, thank God.
Overall I'd put it above San Andreas & GTA3. Not sure yet if it tops GTA4, and I don't think they'll ever top Vice City.
When is this thing coming out for PC?
Oh, also-- I know I'm getting old, but I could have done without the torture part of one mission. I guess Rockstar was trying to make a statement about torture, but they totally botched it.

No, I agree. Scene was drawn out and unnecessary. I came away from it only with the thought of - damn, why'd Rockstar make me waste time doing that.

They could have left it ambiguous or given you the option to bypass it-- or I could have just roughed him up a little to get the info (like in the Godfather games). But no-- I had to move the right analog stick back & forth in the correct pattern in order to rip out the dude's tooth.

I guess I can appreciate what they're trying to go for, but most of the time when I play video games I just want to have fun. Torturing someone honestly isn't very fun for me.
I'm still confused on what was the point of the therapy sessions...

I found them amusing, but then again Michael was my favorite character. I just took them as humorous cutscenes in between missions.
I would have liked therapy sessions with the other characters, especially Trevor. :D

Uh, yeah. I was thinking maybe they'd give it some purpose. Like increasing certain stats or somehow being tied in with actual missions or jobs. Haven't done them all, yet.
Totally unrelated, helicopters are easy as hell to neutralize or bring down in this game. Kind of helps me hold out longer during my impromptu police shootouts.

I did that mission earlier tonight on my PS4. It was fun. :)
Can't wait for the PC version...Early 2015, it is what Steam says.

QuoteGTA V pulled from Target Australia for depictions of violence against women
After pressure from an online petition, Target Australia agrees to stop selling Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V.
Department store Target Australia will no longer sell Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V, the retailer announced Wednesday. The move comes in response to "community pressure" in the form of a Change.org petition that condemned the video game's depictions of violence against women.
The petition -- which at time of writing had collected over 42,000 signatures -- was created by three women who are survivors of sexual violence.
"We have firsthand experience of this kind of sexual violence," the petition reads. "To see this violence that we lived through turned into a form of entertainments is sickening and causes us great pain and harm."
"This game spreads the idea that certain women exist as scapegoats for male violence. It shows hatred and contempt for women in the sex industry and puts them at greater risk. ... Games like this are grooming yet another generation of boys to tolerate violence against women."
GTA V was released in September last year for Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 and reached an astounding $1 billion in retail sales only three day after its launch. Last month, the game was released for the PS4 and Xbox One with a new first-person mode.
The video game, which has an R18+ rating in Australia, allows players a number of interactions with prostitutes, who will restore health in the form of sex acts. Prostitutes in the game can also be violently beaten and killed, which allows the player to recover their money from her corpse.
"We've been speaking to many customers over recent days about the game, and there is a significant level of concern about the game's content," said Target General Manager Corporate Affairs Jim Cooper. "We've also had customer feedback in support of us selling the game, and we respect their perspective on the issue. However, we feel the decision to stop selling GTA5 is in line with the majority view of our customers."
Rockstar parent company Take Two expressed that it was "disappointed" in Target's move.
"We are disappointed that an Australian retailer has chosen no longer to sell Grand Theft Auto V -- a title that has won extraordinary critical acclaim and has been enjoyed by tens of millions of consumers around the world," said Take Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick in a statement.
"Grand Theft Auto V explores mature themes and content similar to those found in many other popular and groundbreaking entertainment properties. Interactive entertainment is today's most compelling art form and shares the same creative freedom as books, television, and movies. I stand behind our products, the people who create them, and the consumers who play them."
Target is not the first store to remove the game from its shelves. Last month, New Zealand's largest retailer, The Warehouse Group, agreed to stop selling the game under pressure from sex worker advocacy group Stop Demand.
"GTA has always been a deeply misogynistic, hyper-masculine game that reduces women largely to strippers and prostitutes," Stop Demand founder Denise Ritchie said. "However, the new first person interactive mode released globally last week significantly ratchets up gamers' experiences."
Target Australia said that it would continue to sell other R18+ material.
"While these products often contain imagery that some customers find offensive, in the vast majority of cases, we believe they are appropriate products for us to sell to adult customers," Cooper said. "However, in the case of GTA5, we have listened to the strong feedback from customers that this is not a product they want us to sell."
Update December 4 1.23 pm AEDT: Kmart Australia has reportedly followed suit. The department store confirmed to Kotaku Australia that it, too, would no longer be selling GTA V, or any GTA title at all, effective immediately. Kmart and Target are both owned by the same parent company, Wesfarmers.
Update December 4 2.19 pm AEDT: Added comment from Take Two CEO and chairman Strauss Zelnick.

Australia - The only western country possibly worse than Germany for videogames
Fixed! :P
Well to be fair it is only Target and Kmart, I believe.
I've ordered the PS4/GTAV bundle for Christmas (plus WWE 2k15 which looks excellent this year).
Started playing this yesterday. Damn, this game looks absolutely gorgeous. I don't have the comparison to PS3, obviously. And yeah, it's gonna be even better on PC, and with higher framerate - by the time I have a PC that can run it at max settings it'll probably be 7.49 on a Steam sale, though. :P
What's weird is that it keeps giving me L.A. Noire flashbacks. Like the church near where Franklin lives, and some of the non-landmark houses, giving me "isn't this where I nabbed some drug smugglers in '47?". I could swear Simeon's car dealership is very similar to one in L.A. Noire (with the small wall and row of bushes around the parking lot). Possibly they recycled some of their buildings from the previous game and brushed them up. Or it might just be that this both being fictional L.A.s that the style is very similar and therefore playing tricks on me. It's a rather strange case of deja vu, though.
After the first couple of missions (I still suck at car chases) I took a car North to the desert. Where I stole a dirtbike and puttered around a bit. From one hill there was a beautiful view at night with city lights in the distance. I drove around a bit, got to the lake, took a boat, drove down the river via Lago Zancudo to Chumash where I stole another car and then headed back home. The roundtrip probably took me an hour, including some looking around, and it didn't scratch much of the surface of the game.
So err....
1: how do you answer the phone? I keep rejecting it and erring a text instead
2: the first Michael/franklin mission... I think I did it wrong. Can you control franklin on that? This character switching confounds me
Directional pad up, then X (or presumably A on XBOX controller) for the phone.
Tapping directional pad down will switch to "most relevant character." Or you hold directional pad down and use the right stick to select.

Wha platform are you using? Xbox?
PS4. Not touching Xbox One, though I was very happy with my 360. But at the end of the day, Sony will probably have more exclusives than Xbox, like MLB The Show. Also: generally no region lock on games. I did like the Xbox menus a lot better, though. It wasn't great, but the Sony store for example is tedious to browse in, and Xbox had more infos, screenshots etc. of games (unless I haven't found them in the PS version yet).
They were offering PS4 with controller and GTA5 here as a bundle, so I snatched it up. I read somewhere that the PS4 that comes with it is slightly improved over the original release model, but I coudln't tell you what those improvements would be. :P
Playing Battlefield4 on PS3 with a bunch of guys kinda reminds me of sitting at the dork table in the cafeteria in junior high, while all the cool kids are on PS4.
Well, the games catalog isn't that great yet one year after release, and a lot of the stuff is available just as well through Steam (and cheaper, most likely!). Sports games is where it's at, really.
Also, there's no real killer titles. Technically, PCs are better, and will in 80-90% of cases get the same games, and then some.
Yeah I have no desire to purchase any of these next gens
The latest GTA V patch added wind effects to trees. Sounds lame but it looks pretty cool, actually.
GTA V is coming to PC april 16th. Woop. €59.99. Bleh. I mean, I'll still get it. But bleh.

Takker. :)
Looking at the pre-release coverage, this might be a game that will prove to a mainstream audience that when it comes to quality a currently (upper) medium range PC is better than next gen consoles, and I feel like this might be the last console generation we may see in a long while (possibly longer than the PS3/X360's already very long life span).
It used to be that each console generation had a bit of a leap - from NES/Master System (8bit!) to SNES/Genesis (16bit!) to N64/Dreamcast (3D!) to PS1/Game Cube (CD ROMSs!) to PS2/Xbox (even better graphics!) to PS3/X360/Wii (HD graphics!).
The jump to PS4/X1/Wii U felt much smaller, and for the first time since the PS1 I feel my computer is actually technically better than the new consoles (when I bought the 360 one or two years after launch it was still better than my PC at the time). The main additions seem to be ZOMG mroe Online functuionality. Yay. <_<
I'm not saying that console games are going to die soon - couch gaming will remain popular, and consoles are still easier to use than PCs (and often cheaper), though not as easy as in the pre-online era (insert game - play). Though it's not helped that a lot of developers still develop their titles with both last gen and current gen in mind. Yes, I have a PS4 by now, but I doubt I will use it in future for anything but exclusives like Bloodborne or some sports game, though with the growth of the PC audience, we might see a swing back to fewer exclusives.
60gb installation. I need more than a 100mbps connection. :weep:
I broke and bought it yesterday evening. Because I apparently have money to burn or something (also, my 48" TV is too far from my couch for gaming :Embarrass: ). The download took four or five hours - it kept going down to 300KB/s, would then go to 16MB/s, and anywhere in between. With most games I get a constant 15-16MB/s.
Had a quick check this morning, but it seems the benchmarking seems broken at the moment. Still, at max settings on 1080p it looked to run at 50-60 FPS onm my nVidia GTX770 w/ 4GB RAM.
How far can you be in your small vienna apartment?
My living room is ca. 5x6m, with TV and couch in opposite corners which is aesthetically the most pleasing, and absolutely fine for TV/movies. There's not really many other options to place things without putting the couch or TV in the middle of the room which sucks. The closest I could get would, from one wall to the other, would be 4.5 meters, but for gaming I find a 2-3m distance the most comfortable (my old apartment's living room was much more cramped).
It's more likely that I may get a bigger TV some time.
Yeah, 4.5 is too far for a 48'' TV.

Mine too, although I max out at ~11MB/s. Annoying. <_<
Tried the game's port yesterday. I've set everything to max settings and have a very smooth experience on my card. I did the intro mission and then took a trip around the island. I've noticed that in the city it can sometimes be a little bit sluggish/laggy, slightly putting you off when trying to take a tight corner at high speed. I'm guessing it's got to do with the game loading in assets, so I may have to reduce some details. Other than that, it looks absolutely gorgeous.
It's gorgeous. I'm running pretty much at what it recommended and it's blazing fast and still very pretty on my (otherwise struggling, might make a computer thread soon :P) video card. Though it does take a couple of minutes to load the save game and has crashed out of the loading process a few times.
I haven't been invited to darts, yet, which I'm very satisfied with.

You're harsh with the Gamecube and the Dreamcast, it's the same generation as the PS2 and Xbox. :P
PS1 is again the same generation as N64 and Saturn (not Dreamcast). But then the Saturn failed dramatically.
I lost interest for GTA with the fourth.
Never really got into GTA4 myself which took a bit too much of a parody bend for my tastes following the San Andrea/Hot Coffee backlash. GTA5 seems to have found more of a middle ground again and it's possibly the best and most detailed open world yet created.
I'm loving Trevor's voice actor. Sounds like a crazy Jack Nicholson.
I had really hoped that choosing Deathwish had actually killed
Franklin. I can't tell if it's because he's a whiny bitch or because he seems to only be able to construct sentences that include nigger or dawg. Not even The Wire can keep up with him.

I'd place the N64 and Dreamcast off in different generations between the PSX/Saturn and PS2/Xbox.
They don't really fit in with either side.
