For a first game, leave it out, definitely. I would say add it in after ~2-3 games and see if you like it. IMO, once you hit the advanced/experienced level of play, it's vital to ensuring a more balanced game.

Quote from: Josquius on Today at 07:43:40 AMI get the impression you think you're being clever. But I don't know what you're trying to say with this.
People get away with criticising dodgy Muslim regimes all the time without being blasted as islamophobic (by anyone who gets listened to anyway. Obviously some try it. ).

If Tamas sets the lower boundary at shouting death to Muslims and the you set the upper boundary at criticizing dodgy Muslim religions, that still leaves a lot of territory between them undefined.

One more thing. What's your take on the expansion? Do you recommend including it or better leave it out for a first game?

I actually never played it myself.

I noticed a few months ago Manor Lords was latched on by the Creative Assembly haters as the Total War killer. Never understood why, but I wouldn't rule out that vocal and weird community contributing to the hype. They... feel strongly about things.

The trouble with the talk of a firewall against Islamophobia, as great as it sounds in theory, when you think about it in detail raises lots of questions.
The very definition of Islamophobia is under attack at the moment with loads of attempts to paint any criticism of radical/orthodox Islam as Islamophobia, then there's the varying interpretations of Palestine will be free....

I can't see an absolute zero tolerance on Islamophobia being practical as if manage to get rid of the nuts screaming death to Muslims the opposition groups will just find something else to insist is Islamophobia

I'd hope there'd come a level where what they're doing would be recognised and disregarded, but I don't rate the chances. And the practicalities of even getting to that point.... It'd be tough.

I suppose it is better to say you have zero tolerance on Islamophobia but obviously be fighting a doomed battle to enforce that to the satisfaction of some as opposed to saying nothing on the topic. Getting rid of the most overt examples would be a win all round even if some wouldn't recognise it.
But still. They're in a tough place.

Quote from: Josquius on Today at 12:53:35 AMHonestly I'm not getting it. Why is it so special? Aren't there a million similar games out there? What does this one do different?
That said it did end up on my wishlist somehow.

You always have random It games of the moment.

Foundation with its cartoony look (and no combat) has been scratching my itch again for non grid based city building so will be a while yet until I consider getting this (though it has also been on my wishlist during its early access).

Quote from: Josephus on Today at 05:34:07 AMAs I said many months ago, it makes no sense for Trudeau to step down now, or for a purge. Whoever leads the Liberal Party in the next election, with the exception of maybe Taylor Swift, will lose. They all know that, even if they are in denial. No newbleader is gonna wanna run and lose right away; that's political suicide. Best to let Trudeau take the fall next election, and then start from scratch and aim for 2029 or 30 or whenever.

The Conservatives are not popular, Trudeau is very unpopular.

There is an easy way to fix that quickly. But it has to be done quickly.

The real question is whether Trudeau will have the insight and humility to realize that he is the reason the Liberals are so unpopular.  That is the thing that is unlikely.  And it will be for that reason that the Liberal party goes down in one of the biggest defeats in Canadian history.

Quote from: crazy canuck on April 26, 2024, 11:47:21 AMI agree that is the most likely scenario.  The wildcard is that I doubt Carney would want to wait till the following election given his age and stage.  It would be much better for him if Trudeau stepped down now.  And we have already discussed the grumbling within the party that many want that to happen.

Obviously.

But does he have enough support to make it happen?

The Libs are this point because theu collectively failed.  Some might fear a purge.

There was an article in the Globe quoting party insiders suggesting he does and his leadership of the party at the point is inevitable.  The only question now is before or after the election.

Never mind EU5, this is basically Vickie IV (in an earlier, pre Vickie era).

Other important aspects
Every building requires employed pops to function as well, and those that require "upper class" pops like burghers, clergy, and nobles, also increase the potential for them in the location, making pops slowly promoted. This can be slightly awkward as powerful nobles or clergy construct more buildings that make them more numerous and powerful.

Producing buildings that are not profitable will be closed, and pops will work in other buildings, however, you can always subsidize a building if you require the goods or other benefits it gives.

Speaking of profit. The profit of a building is added to the Tax Base of a location, split among the power of the population in the location.

You can always close and open a building, if you want to manipulate prices, or if you want your pops to work with other things, and you don't want to destroy a building permanently.

Also this game seems like it's going to be super ambitious. I think it may be a couple years away from full development.
