QuoteMr Carter celebrated his most recent birthday in October in Plains, the tiny Georgia town where he and his wife were born between the First World War and the Great Depression, and where they returned when he left office.
Carter always had something of the Hobbit to him. Do what he felt was right (either in the military, as a governor, as President, then as Post-President) then return to his roots. He is (sadly for now) too smart, intelligent, and grounded to actually be seen as a great man.

Quote'No further hope' for Tom Sizemore after brain aneurysm, actor's family says
A representative for the Saving Private Ryan and Heat actor confirmed his family is deciding end-of-life matters, 10 days after he was hospitalised
Tom Sizemore has no hope of recovery after he suffered a brain aneurysm, his family has said, confirming they are making an end-of-life decision for the Saving Private Ryan actor.
The 61-year-old has been in a coma in the intensive care unit of Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Los Angeles since he was hospitalised on 18 February.
On Monday night, Sizemore's representative, Charles Lago, issued a statement revealing that there was no chance for his recovery.
"Today doctors informed his family that there is no further hope and have recommended end of life decision. The family is now deciding end of life matters and a further statement will be issued on Wednesday," Lago said.
"We are asking for privacy for his family during this difficult time, and they wish to thank everyone for the hundreds of messages of support and prayers that have been received," he added. "This has been a difficult time for them."
Sizemore, who has acted in films including Saving Private Ryan, Heat and Black Hawk Down, was found unconscious at his LA home around 2am on 18 February, having collapsed following a stroke.

I had a brief interaction with him back in the early 90s. I was working a summer job with customs at the airport when he came through with all the people in his show.
The thing that struck me immediately was he was travelled with everyone in his show. He didn't leave the secured customs area until he was sure everyone was ok. He was the last of his group to leave. Even though he was the first to clear customs. I was struck by the care and responsibility he took for the wellbeing of those around him.
I later took in his concert. Which was amazing.
The most difficult thing for me, while he was in customs, is not blurting out "I am a fan!"

Ray Stevenson has passed away last Sunday :(
Ray Stevenson dead at 58 (https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/22/entertainment/ray-stevenson-death/index.html)
QuoteRay Stevenson, an actor who appeared in "RRR" and the "Thor" films, died Sunday, his publicist Nicki Fioravante confirmed to CNN.
Stevenson was 58.
No additional information about the cause of his death was immediately available.
Born Gregory Raymond Stevenson in Northern Ireland, the actor moved to England as a child. He most recently starred in the 2022 Oscar-winning film "RRR" as the villainous Scott Buxton. The movie won the Oscar for best original song, and was the second highest-grossing film in India in 2022.
Stevenson was set to appear in the upcoming Star Wars series "Ahsoka" as Baylan Skoll this August and attended the 2023 Star Wars Celebration event last month. Stevenson spoke at the event about his excitement to be part of the project, saying "getting to wield the light saber is just the best feeling in the world."
"Ahsoka" is third Star Wars related TV series Stevenson has starred in, having previously voiced the role of Gar Saxon in 2016's "Star Wars: Rebels" and in two episodes of "Star Wars: Clone Wars" in 2020.
Stevenson has over 60 acting credits that date back to the 1990s, but his breakout role came in 2005 when he starred as Titus Pullo in the BBC/HBO series "Rome," set in the last days of the Roman Republic that also starred "Banshees of Inisherin" actor Kerry Condon, James Purefoy and Kevin McKid.
Purefoy paid tribute to Stevenson on Twitter on Monday, saying he's "so sad to hear the news that Ray Stevenson, our Pullo in Rome, has passed away. A brilliant, gutsy, larger-than-life actor who filled every part he played right up to the brim. My thoughts are with his family, his lovely wife Betta and their beautiful kids. What a loss."
He is also known for his role as Volstagg, a "boisterous member of the Warriors Three," in Marvel's "Thor" franchise. Stevenson appeared as Volstagg in the 2011 "Thor" film, and reprised the character in 2013 for "Thor: The Dark World" and in 2017's "Thor: Ragnarok."
His first few credits include roles on TV series such as "A Woman's Guide to Adultery," "The Dwelling Place" and "Band of Gold," in which he appeared in nine episodes. He also appeared in both seasons of "City Central" as DI Tony Baynham throughout the late '90s.
Throughout the aughts, Stevenson continued to guest star on various TV shows, including "The Walking Dead" and "At Home with Braithwaites," before starring in films such as "Outpost" in 2008 and "Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant" in 2009.
Stevenson went on to star in big-ticket movies throughout the 2010s such as the action comedy "The Other Guys" alongide Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg in 2010, Paul W.S. Anderson's 2011 adaptation of "The Three Musketeers," "Divergent" and "The Book of Eli."
:( I think he was great as Titus Pullo, the role suited him very well.
Damn, that's too young. He was one of the best in the latter seasons of Dexter, too.
Oh man, he was just finished with Ahsoka, and I saw his interviews from Star Wars Celebration last month, he seemed super excited about being in the franchise. :(

Thanks for sharing that. I'd not seen that before.

RIP Sinead O'Connor
Fuck about Sinead. :-(
I was a fan of hers, and not just her first two albums either. She's had issues, I know. Wouldn't surprise me if this is by suicide. (Haven't heard that's the case).
Just read her biography recently.
Fuck.
Somehow, I thought she died last year.

To his credit that people remember him more now as an actor then his earlier porn career.

He did crazy hardcore matches (fire, thumbtacks, barbed wire, baseball bats .... ), but I don't think he juiced, unlike others, which may have played a role. Though I recall in the Beyond The Mat documentary from the 90s he was obviously having a lot of wear and tear in joints and bones, so I guess painkillers may have been on the menu (another very common abuse item in professional wrestling).

Oh RIP :(
Always find it interesting which famous people have people on social media sharing great stories about that person - for example, I think everyone's estimation of George Michael increased after his death as there was a flood of stories about his kindness, something similar with Sir Roger Moore.
It's definitely happened with Michael Gambon. In a highly competitive field, I think this is the best story I've seen:
QuoteDanny Lee Wynter
@dannyleewynter
Months after filming the Stephen Poliakoff gig I was walking out of a screening room in Soho with Michael Gambon. I'd never seen myself on screen. It was pre dubbing, no music, hadn't been graded, just the bare bones of a film. My heart sank. I thought I'd fucked it
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F7Hn6NdXEAAMUba?format=jpg&name=small)
I also sensed Michael wasn't happy with himself either. "You're good in it" he said lighting up a fag. "I suppose yer gonna go bumming in soho now, are you? You know I tried it once, it made my eyes water." We walked down Dean Street, everyone staring at us.
As we walked I looked up & to my shock saw my Dad walk past. We locked eyes & then he carried on walking. Me & my father share a complex relationship. But I was stunned he was going to walk on. "Dad!" I cried out. He looked up, came over & I introduced them.
I then watched my father morph into a big kid. He kept calling him "Sir" & banging on about Lock Stock. "Your son did good" Gambonie told him of the film we just watched. "So did you" I said. "Oh, shut up you!" Gambon barked, "What do you know, eh?" The two men laughed.
I didn't feel embarrassed like I'd done in the past. Perhaps there were times when Dad was embarrassed of who I was. But I felt proud. Proud cos I'd become an actor with zero encouragement, not too dissimilar from this man who my father now called "Sir."
I felt my Dad's love on that street, though I'd long since cared about seeking it. Gambon already knew about my old man when months before we were stuck in a canoe in Bodium Castle. For an entire day we covered everything; childhood, religion, sexuality, idols, regrets.
Now here they were. After we said goodbye we carried on walking in silence toward China Town. Gambon out of nowhere said "Funny things, fathers ... Try to be happy, Danny. U must try." Then he walked off & I watched him bleed into the crowd... The Singing Detective. I idolised him

Nobody got Jacques Delors, former president of the European Commission.
Gaston Glock, founder of the weapons company of the same name, has died at age 94. Incidentally, the company turned 60 this year (founded in 1963). According to ORF the company had a revenue of EUR 850 million and a profit of EUR 146 million last year.
Sometimes it blows my mind that a company like Glock would have 1/1000th of a profit of Apple. Unlike Apple products, Glock products really do change many lives.
Btw, this is is 2nd wife (according to ORF he had a really messy divorce from his first wife), getting ready to deliver testimony during the post-Ibiza scandal parliamentary inquiry. Or she might be at a casting for First Order characters in Star Wars, take your pick. :P

Bryan Ansell passed away.
From a reddit post describing his impact:
QuoteNone of us would be here without him. He founded Citadel Minuatures, he hired people like the Perry Twins, Rick Priestly and Richard Halliwelll. He ordered Warhammer to be written, he invented plastic bases for miniatures and blister packs. He was the driving force behind the Realm of Chaos books, which arguably were the foundational Warhammer books and laid the foundation of the unique cosmology that set Warhammer apart from other fantasy and sci-fi creations.
Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone may have created Game Workshop, but Bryan Ansell turned it into the company of Warhammer. For better or worse, he set the course the corporation would follow for the next few decades.
If you ever painted a fantasy miniature or moved a fantasy toy soldier over a tabletop, you have done so because of this man's vision.
