It's the follow up of the 1701, 1503 & 1602 series. In America it's known as Dawn of Discovery.
They are City builders game, emphasis on building. There's some combat but it can be turned off & lets you concentrate on designing & running a Colony.
Gamersgate got the previous 2 installements (1701 & 1503) for 20$ If you just want to try it out.
Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the info. I think I had 1602 once upon a time. Was ok, nothing special.
Sadly, there's no multiplayer.
Is there a demo out?

I'm giving it a whirl. Are the predecessors any good?
1701 is awesome.
And by awesome our emo friend means alright (not nous).
No, I think I meant Awesome.
I've played the demo. It seems like a decent game, but I don't see how it's much of an improvement over 1701.

No, our gay friend is just being presumptuous. :smarty:
DRM :bleeding:
I have 1701 but had trouble playing it on my old computer. Never loaded it on the new computer but I play and enjoy the previous game - 1501 or what ever it's called? I get the labels mixed up, all the year dates. I think I'll try this one though, and maybe play 1701.
Yeah, the titles are confusing:
1602 => 1503 => 1701 => 1404
Next game should be 1205 or 1805. :P
Thanks Syt. The game I have is 1503. I like the game, and wish there was a bit more to it.
Does 1404 allow a free style mode, in addition to the missions? Similar to the previous games. The review I read was about it going in missions where you complete successive missions for your colony. I may pick it up on the way home from work today.
According to German FAQ:
QuoteEine neue intuitive Benutzeroberfläche, eine motivierende Kampagne sowie ein voll modifizierbares freies Spiel und innovative Communityfeatures sorgen bei Einsteigern wie Profis für großen Spielspaß und einen enorm hohen Wiederspielwert.
"A new intuitive user interface, a motivating campaign and a fully customizable free game and innovative community features for fun playing and very high replayability for beginners and pro."
The site also has a DRM FAQ (in German, but not English, so DRM schemes may vary): 3 activations on different PC configurations (gfx card and RAM exchanges supposedly don't count, but mainboard, processors, OS etc. do), then you need to contact support for more activations.
Nice, thanks Syt. :)

1206 or 1800, the number should add up to 9. :nerd:
Also note that they threw out MP at the last minute.

Nah. If American catches on then the American name will prevail & the next iteration will be Dawn of Discovery 2.

It should be 1800. The odd-numbered releases go up by 99 years, the even-numbered releases go down by 99 years. Therefore, the next two sequels are 1800, and then 1305.

A movie.
Played around with the demo for a couple minutes last night. Its ok but there was nothing there that made me want to rush out and get it instead of just playing the older games in the series.
A classic movie. Icon of pop culture.

Answer the damn question or stay out of the thread.
Is it any different than the others ? Pretty graphics but boring.

Explain further.

It's not worth the DRM headache & 50$ if you own any of the previous iteration, especially 1701.

How onerous is the DRM? I really haven't found much info or decent forums, in English anyway. I bought the game, haven't gotten around to installing it, but started playing 1503 again.

3 installs only, if you need more you have to call them.
That's pretty onerous in my book, using two computers and the occasional formatting/upgrades it won't last much more than a year. No deal.

Yeah, that 3 installs could get tricky. I can understand a game maker trying to cut down on piracy of their products, but that scheme is just a bit problematic. Maybe it'll work ok, call the company, don't know. I did buy 1404, so I'll install and play it. And they may come out with a patch to remove that, maybe after they figure most of the initial games are sold or something.
I play 1503, an older game, on what must be my third computer and install of the game over the past five years or so. So it's kind of easy to go through 3 installs just in normal/legal use.

That tips the balance for me then. No purchase from me.
