"Swarthmore College's SJP chapter" doesn't seem like a major or important organization.

If you don't save every 10 seconds, are you really playing the game?

I didn't always agree with Rex Murphy, but I can see his appeal. He made a very solid contribution to public life in Canada.

May he rest in peace.

Italy apparently has the lowest (but still high) rate of overweight folks in Europe:

... and it's near the bottom when it comes to obesity as well

That said, it doesn't seem massively different from Northern Europe. Maybe there's something special about Sardinia that results in a lower rate relative to Italy as a whole... or maybe there's some other factors in play in terms of the visiting demographics?

If you can (economically) devote 10 times the energy (arbitrary number) to your economy (and military) than your competitors can, that seems to be a pretty big advantage in industry and manufacturing (at least the bits that are require significant energy inputs) as well as any data-related industries (AI is famously energy intensive, as is the internet).

Or did you mean something else?

I always enjoyed when he hosted Cross Country Checkup on CBC radio.  He was always super sympathetic and gracious with all the random Canadians calling in.

So the next election is projecting to go very badly for the Tories, but the idea they're going to win 6 seats and be the 4th or 5th party in Parliament seems unlikely.

Don't Sinn fein have 7 or 8 seats? Tories would be in 5th place.  :lmfao:

Quote from: Jacob on May 09, 2024, 11:20:22 AMI believe it's a well established fact that obesity etc is becoming more widespread across Europe. There are some North-South trends (and East-West ones too?), but I believe overall everyone is getting fatter at varying rates.

Total populations yes, but something I didn't realize until now is what that means for younger men.

It's also striking when compared to a population like the Sardinians who have generally remained fit.
