Title: PC audio setup
Post by: Josquius on May 06, 2022, 07:36:13 AM
For many years I've had a audio unit from a pub hooked up to my computer with two speakers. This is old, analogue, and less than ideal. I'm thinking I need to get something better- I've been thinking this for many years actually but just never got onto it.

I wonder however, what is the best thing to do?
What value do specialised computer speakers have vs. buying a modern digital stereo and hooking that up?
On my computer I do everything, I want good quality music audio but I also want to play games, I imagine whichever you prefer decides the optimum choice?
But is there a good medium that balances all uses?
What do you do for PC audio?

I really have no good answer for you.

I use a Kingston HyperX headset with a USB based sound dongle also from HyperX.

I'm using Sony wireless headphones with noise canceling. I'm a lot less annoyed at my neighbors since I made the switch. :P

My motherboard comes with very good integrated audio, so I use that and Logitech external speakers, a 5.1 kit I bought a long time ago that still serves me well.

I do not think a middle of the road amplificator would give you much better sound quality than a good middle of the road speaker set.  I believe it all comes down to prices and what you already have.  If you have decent speakers already, buy another amplificator unit to go with it.

If you need to replace everything, well, a sound card would cost less:

And then some speakers.
These are ok:

But Z906 sounds apparently much better, but it's 3x the price too.

I also have G635 headset I use for gaming, sometimes.
