Aware this is the opposite of the usual... But does anyone ever get surprised at how "young" some people are?
I just learned Beyonce is only 42. In my mind she's been around forever and must have been over 50.

Quote from: Sheilbh on May 05, 2024, 08:28:59 PMI think that's a very kind reading. My first thought would be that I now have a stalker who, a week (and hundreds of deliveries) later still remembers where I live.

Maybe but he is also just a kid thus prone to making well meaning idiotic choices. But sure.

Also it just shows that approaching women, and gay men apparently, will make them think you might be a stalker. So, again, don't fucking do it.

Because it is threatening (though what I quoted I believe was a telling joke). After all, the woman has no recourse to escape. He obviously felt strongly enough to recall or otherwise look up her address again which means he also knows her name. Then he shows up to shoot his shot in a place where she can't actually leave, a place where she should feel safe. It is such a violation of trust and would make one concerned about what will the idiot do next when you refuse him.

That summary for consoles sounds about right.

It's sad in a way. I have extrmeley fond memories of getting new consoles. But post ps2 it's all just Meh.
Part of it is no doubt age but I do think the shine has come off console gaming in general too.
I have a switch but otherwise the most regent consoles I have are a PS3 and Wii - I have been tempted by a ps5 at some point, with ps4 games ones I want to play on there.... But 3/4 of the games that interest me seem to be coming onto PC anyway.
The Japanese industry dying in particular has crushed consoles.

I've read a few pieces lately saying gaming as I know it altogether is dying. That traditional games are just for old people with kids these days preferring their looped multiplayer free to play battleground sandboxes.

With the news lately of AAA studios being in trouble too...

I am not saying the majority of Muslims in Europe want caliphate I am sure they do not. What I am unsure about is how many of them are opposed to the thought enough to work against it, but that part shan't become an issue for many decades.

But I think it's naive to think they or their families have come to Europe because of shared values. I am pretty sure most migrants everywhere are economic ones and they settle in their new countries despite and not because of the cultural differences from their original home.

Koopman's studies point to about 40% to 50% of muslims being fundamentalist.
How many of those live here vs Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey and other shitholes?

That's the Muslims in Europe. So even 1 is 1 too many

Attending Church (Mosque) has, IMO, never been as central to religious life for Muslims. Mosques are certainly important, but Islam has also long rejected many of the symbols and the "priestly class" of Christianity / Rabbinical Judaism. Imams are not the Muslim equivalent of a Priest, they are more like the Muslim equivalent of a Deacon, and aside from Shiites with their Ayatollahs (and I think Shia is only like 10% of Muslims worldwide or something), most Muslim religious leaders are basically just the equivalent of "popular theologians" who gain a following (that often perpetuates after their death.)

The Caliph had a special role in Islam, but obviously there hasn't been a Caliph in going on 100 years.

In traditional Christianity it is taught that you really need to go to Church, experience the liturgy etc. In Islam it is far more important you follow the Five Pillars in your daily life.

The "Friday prayer" was and is often an important time to gather in Mosques, similar to Sunday for Christians--but again, less so. In fact in many Islamic regions the Friday mosque gathering was only common in very large cities.

I meant more as in being in denial of who I really am by putting ally in quotes.  ;)

As to what to do differently? Believe women. Just because you know something to be illegal or wrong doesn't make it so. Especially if such things are more or less socially accepted or at least tolerated. Speak up more when you see guys being creepy or when you see women being uncomfortable or they tell you that they are. You'll never really get it unless you are a woman, but trying to be better and trying to ensure those around you are better is important as heck. Be honest with yourself and what you are or are not doing. Ask women friends/family what you can do better, what you're doing right, or what you're doing wrong. Accept criticism.  That's really basic stuff, but it is a great start!

Quote from: Sophie Scholl on May 05, 2024, 09:34:27 PMI spent 40ish years of my life feeling absolutely safe no matter where I went. I have spent a year getting catcalled, followed, threatened, touched, groped, inappropriately talked to, propositioned, and more. I thought I understood how bad it was before. I thought I was a good "ally". I thought I knew the depths that men went to in pursuit of women. I was wrong.

Ok I believe you. But you seem to blame yourself as being a bad "ally". Some of the stuff you describe is actually illegal to do so it isn't like there is some sense that these men could reasonably understand what they are doing isn't wrong. What should you have done differently in those 40ish years?
