As part of their Bank Holiday weekend demonstrations, the right-wing English Defence League (EDL) arranged a meeting in London's HalfWay to Heaven gay bar. A "lot of lads" were reportedly present.

EDL leader Stephen Lennon has previously said he opposes the building of Mosques "because they preach homophobia and anti-Semitism which we should not tolerate in this country".

As part of a series of rallies and meetings this weekend, London EDL sympathisers were invited to the HalfWay to Heaven bar near Soho – the website of which advertises itself as a gay bar "orientated towards the 9–5 male worker".

The EDL rallies were the latest in a rising tide of anti-Muslim activity sparked by the killing of soldier Lee Rigby in Woolwich.

Aside from dropping in to the gay bar, the EDL also found time to have tea at a Mosque in York, after counter-demonstrators in their hundreds descended on the marchers with cups and a sugar bowl.

Other counter-protesters tried to disrupt proceedings by directing EDL members to a rally at E20, the once-fictional postcode used as the location for the soap opera EastEnders.

The weekend was topped off with a sponsored march from Downing Street to Woolwich, where Lee Rigby was killed. The march was intended to raise money for the Help for Heroes charity, but they announced today: "We are a non-political organisation and we do not knowingly accept any money from any organisation that could be considered extreme."

A Spokesperson for Halfway to Heaven told PinkNews: "We were unaware there was a group representing EDL in the Halfway to Heaven business. No arrangement was made directly with the pub regarding any meeting or gathering. No visual identification of the group was evident and there were no disturbances or issues within the business on the day. No complaints were received and it was a normal, busy, Bank Holiday trading weekend at the pub. As a company support is not given to any political party or group."

WOT ALL THIS THEN?

Considering Grallon's (and to a lesser extent, your own) position on immigration I don't see the cause for surprise.

Goes back to Pym Fortyn. Euro-gheys are often intolerant of muslim intolerance of them.

The lefty political activist who murdered him to save muslims from persecution didn't miss. Unfortunately.

Meanwhile in York, some EDL members went to the local mosque to protest, and were invited in for tea and biscuits instead

York Mosque praised for offering EDL protesters tea

York Mosque Father Tim Jones said "the world can learn" from what happened outside the mosque

A mosque has been praised for serving tea and biscuits to English Defence League supporters after the far-right group arranged a demonstration there.

About six people turned up to protest at the mosque in Bull Lane, York, on Sunday and were invited inside to play football with worshippers.

More than 100 supporters of the mosque had gone there after learning of the planned EDL protest.

Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu said the mosque's response was "fantastic".

He said: "Tea, biscuits, and football are a great and typically Yorkshire combination when it comes to disarming hostile and extremist views."
'Proud moment'

Father Tim Jones, who went to the Bull Lane mosque, which is situated in his parish, said: "I've always known they were intelligent and compassionate people and I think this has demonstrated the extent to which they are people of courage - certainly physical courage and also a high degree of moral courage.

"I think the world can learn from what happened outside that ramshackle little mosque on Sunday."

Hull Road ward councillor Neil Barnes said it had been a "proud moment for York".

He said: "I don't think I'll ever forget the day that the York Mosque tackled anger and hatred with peace and warmth - and I won't forget the sight of a Muslim offering a protester tea and biscuits with absolute sincerity."

Fears over a demonstration grew after Yorkshire EDL Scarborough Division posted a message on its Facebook page calling for supporters to gather outside the mosque.

Imam Abid Salik said: "We did have a few people who did come to protest but when they came some of the members of the mosque went over and they engaged in a conversation.

"Some people went over with cups of tea and biscuits, they were talking for about 30 or 40 minutes and then they came inside, which was a really, really beautiful thing."

At least the leadership is trying to position themselves smartly. I doubt their general membership is particularly gay friendly however.

I guess it's a matter for them to decide who is more harmful to society?  Sure, the gays are a poison that diminishes everything that is good about the West, but are they worse than an alien force who aren't interested in participating in civilization but only coming in and looting what they can from it?
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.
