Puhleaze

Do check Lock n' Load out, Ed.

Since I am a nice guy, I will. When I get some spare time.

Any other Hungarian, I would have made a beet it joke.

For fucks sake, it's only 20 bucks...
I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

And someday very soon, it shall be $10 or fewer...I have so many games on the docket right now it would be halfway brain dead to buy it at full price.

The essence of the review is correct. It's not an AAA title. This is a game made entirely by one guy (except the music). So it's not exactly overflowing with content, at least until the mods start rolling in.
The UI seems to be also a bit hit and miss. I like it, and so does this reviewer. The dude from RPS hates it, though.

In any case, I'm having enough of a good time so far to be still here at 5 AM. :P

crazy canuck

This looks like a game that would interest me.

It looks like a game that would interest me many months down the line. Well as in, I find the idea interesting but seems to currently lack depth.

Like lack of depth has ever stopped you before.

I've grown wiser with age and am no longer interested in paying for shallow things.

No Panzer Divisions... How decidedly boring.

QuoteOh crap, that sheep pasture has an infestation again.  In Banished, a barebones town simulator from the mind of Luke Hodorowicz at Shining Rock Software, you guide the meager existence of a small group of settlers in a frontier setting. You build houses and roads, barns and markets, tailors and blacksmiths, chapels and graveyards - all to balance resources, health and happiness so your townsfolk can survive the rough winters and maybe even get it on with each other to create more workers for you.  :zzz To really be successful, you need to trade with random merchants who come by way of the river that snakes through each area to get more seeds and livestock like cattle or sheep, but you can't depend on anyone outside your town to keep your people alive. Banished is a neat little simulation, but it doesn't take long to see all it offers, and even though there's a great interface, the game could benefit from more of a, well, soul.

I liked some of those ancient city simulators from the 1990's.  Of course in Pharaoh, you could build pyramids and fight off raiders.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011
