Utterly bizzare they would put this condom thing on a referendum. Seems a given to me that people would take the prude vote.
Well, the vote was relatively close, and the ethnic blocks voted against sexual stereotype, so as usual, you'd be wrong.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

I have no idea what he is saying.  We don't like people cheating on their spouses.

That's fine but it's preposterous to force someone to resign from their professional position over cheating (unless they are somehow misusing their professional position but then it's not the case of cheating but abuse of authority).

Hardly. It's a public health issue, in the same manner a ban on smoking in public places is.

Besides, gay porn industry has been effectively having this ban in place (in a form of self-policing, where producers do did not obey it are being banned from various festivals, contests and platforms and the like) for years now and it's really hard to accuse gays of being overly prudish.

As well as public health you can spin it as a work safety issue. It's like hard hats, ear muffs, reflective clothing, harnesses or work boots, it's for the worker's self protection as well as the ones surrounding them.

Yeah (I actually meant it this way, too). Anyway, I don't get the problem, really. People will still watch porn, even with a condom. As I said, for nearly a decade now most of gay porn is filmed that way and it is actually weird (and somewhat gross) to see anal penetration without a condom.

I'd hardly call it much of a public health issue, not many people have anything to do with the industry. I've no idea how things are in LA but in most places I'd imagine it's quite a hidden industry too, one ordinary people try their best to ignore the existance of.

I really don't see how what the industry does is much of an issue that affects the public let alone is such a big issue that it warrants a referendum.

Porn is about ideal fantasies. Ideals fantasies don't involve such concerns as "Is it in yet?" and "Do you have protection?". Maybe for gay people its not such a big deal, given the gay community's history and all that....well, safe sex is a lot more of an issue. For straight folks though condomned porn isn't a good thing, they're more likely to start filming outside the county than to go along with this.

Public health is a catch-all term for improving health condition/preventing disease in a certain demographic. It doesn't mean it has to affect most of the public.

Distributing clean syringes to drug addicts is a public health issue as well, even though they represent a small percentage of the population.

Sometimes, Tyr, you really live up to the reputation of being Languish's most stupid poster.

And when you get to the workplace safety aspect of the issue, there are lots of safety regulations that only affect certain industries which may not have very many workers.  For example, there are very strict rules about handling/removing asbestos, but there aren't all that many people who do that work.

OTOH, while you can justify this as a workplace safety issue, workplace safety rules aren't generally put in place by referendum.  And doing something of this nature at the municipal level is silly when the industry can just move production to the suburbs.

Well in California, you vote on everything.  I'm not sure it is silly to say that you won't let unsafe work environments exist in your city.

True but that is not exactly normal in the US.  It seems to only apply to those at the pinnacle for whatever reason.  And I am not sure that he was actually forced.

I forgot but had wanted to add - I think your opinion here is largely due to your hang ups regarding anal sex.

General Petraeus ought to resign - not for having an affair, but for incompetence. I mean, he was caught because he was sending sexy emails through his gmail account to his lover ... this is the head spook of the US, and he knows nothing of communications security? Sad.
