In an Internet cafe. The one place a person would be most likely to recognize him since his wackiness is all over the Internet. Ego's a bitch, isn't it?

QuoteMagnotta had spent two hours reading coverage about himself at an Internet cafe when he was detained.

 Typical.

He wanted for it to end this way.  There's no death penalty in Canada - which means if he plays his cards well he can be free within 10 years.  And after that... why - a book deal and quite possibly a movie made out of the whole gory story.  Male escort, porn actor, murderer - sex and gore -  it has 'Hollywood' written all over it.  And I believe that's what he wants above all else: a form of 'immortality' through the relating and retelling of that bloody affair.

G.
Nothing prevent the book&film deal while inside jail.

He gets 25 years, no parole, wich means he might be available for a revision of his status in 15 years.  But the Evil Conservatives plugged a few holes in that law... so he won't kill any other gays for a while.

I'm pretty sure there's a law against a criminal profiting from his crime in a situation like that.  Somebody might get a book deal, but it won't be him.

Still, it's just another murder/dismemberment, in a world where that sort of thing happens every day.  I was bored of this story within an hour.

I don't think there's a law, but publishers don't need to bother signing a deal with a criminal.  all some reporter needs to do is sit in on the trial and then report on all the evidence that the police have already dug up.  Both cheaper and easier than having to even talk to the accused.

He'll get first degree murder, which means no parole for 25 years.  And in 25 years he'll be mostly forgotten.

I know down here there's been plenty of laws passed to prevent celebrity prisoners to publish and profit in any way from biographies or other published material;  anything like that up in Soviet Canuckistan?

Not that I'm aware of.

We had our own sensational murder trial in Edmonton last year - Mark Twitchell, who killed a man and wrote a fictionalized screen play about how he did it. It got coverage on a bunch of American tv shows.

A book came out this year about the whole case, written by the Edmonton Journal writer who had covered it.  He even did a number of interviews with Twitchell.  But Twitchell himself never got paid one penny, and had no control over what was printed.

Well, down here you can publish from prison;  you just can't profit from it.  In some instances, profits would go to victims families if there was an existing civil suit that had been successful.

I don't see why any publishing house would touch a book coming from a convicted felon with the proverbial 10 foot pole.  Look at the heat that OJ book caught - and he was acquitted!

So Vancouver, wich has received it's fair share of human feet by way of the sea, now receives some by mail to.

Related to the Montreal crime?  Not related?  Time will tell.  Here's the twist in the plot though: a 3rd foot was found in Montreal, in the neighbourhood right next to were the crime was committed.  The foot was found in a street (Rue St-Jacques, Notre-Dame-de-GrĂ¢ce).

So either there's a second victim or there's more than one dude killing people.

I sincerely doubt it's a copycat at hand. My money's on the rest of the missing body parts sent by slow mail, as it was reported not all parts of the body had been recovered. It's all calculated to shock and be talked at length in the media. First political party officers, then grade schools.

As Lin was killed very recently, like about two weeks ago - that leaves a very thin window for future prison bitch Magnotta to kill again before fleeing - given, of course, that we do not know the exact stage of decomposition of the so-called "3rd feet" (if it is even related), indicating that any potential victim might have been killed before the snuff was made.

While I would not be surprised that he might have killed at least once before - it would be horrifying if Magnotta was a serial killer as per the FBI definition, and that was only the tip of the iceberg - serial killers usually kill with a slower timespan and tend to make and keep mementos for themselves - not to showcase them to the entire world, show himself doing it, and boast about it. Even someone as depravedly attention-seeking like Dennis Rader/BTK would at least keep his real identity a secret when sending taunts to the media.

That's why I doubt this boy is a serial killer, he wanted to get caught and did everything he could to be easily caught. What he wants is exhibit himself to get fame and celebrity forever. He reminds me more of John Hinkley Jr. or Mark David Chapman, than Jeffrey Dahmer.

False alarm.  Someone's idea of a joke, it was a plastic foot.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

The guy was extradited by Germany to Canada today. I am surprised this was done so quickly.

Me too.

I wonder if he'll try to plead not guilty.

Only defense I can see so far is some form of mental disease.
