I might have the chance to stay at a friend's shore place in Ocean City, MD next weekend, was wondering if anybody has been and if there is anything to do, since it will probably be too cold for sea bathing.

It looks like it's too far away to see the wild Chincoteague ponies.:(

Anything worth doing in that part of the Delmarva?

It's a drinking town.  Tons of DC area high school kids and New Jersey dirty Italian girls.

Went there a few years back Memorial Day Weekend.  I had a good time.  As Yi says, it's a drinking town, not much else to do that I saw.  It was good for a 2 day drinking fest, but if you're looking for culture or anything like that, look elsewhere.

Well that doesn't sound too bad.  I've only ever been to Ocean City, NJ, which is, surprisingly, dry.

There are worse ways to spend your time than drinking and staring at 16 year old girls in anal floss.

Yes, there's plenty to do even though the season hasn't started yet.

You can drive 20 minutes to Assateague, and see the shitload of ponies there.  Chincoteague gets all the press because of The Drive, but Assateague has just as many.

Go north into Delaware, see all the beaches and all the outlet stores.  No sales tax in Delaware.

Every now and then in Rehoboth and Bethany, you'll see a WW2 watchtower used for spotting Der Kreigsmarine.

PM me for more details if you want.  I only spent most of my childhood there, that's all.

I know I've been to Ocean City, NJ... unsure if I've been to the Maryland one.  My mom goes down to Lewes, Delaware all the time during the summer, which I think is nearby.

I miss the Delaware beaches + Ocean City.  Ocean City was great, for all its tackiness.

Tacky is as tacky does.

I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim.

In Ocean City, tacky just is.

Also has a lot of subpar seafood restaurants.  One of the really good ones we went to had a kick-ass all you can eat smorgasbord-type deal for about $20, though.  If you could manage not to fill up on the stuff they brought out first (which was good), you could chow down on crabs, which is brought out later.

edit: The place is called Hooper's.  Haven't been there for about 8 years but it still haunts my dreams: http://www.hooperscrabhouse.com/
