The other day I thought about the model train set I built as a kid. Now a friend is putting her father's trainsets up for sale.
Bachman HO, 4 train sets.

Some day I want to get into model trains.

It's a shame I don't have the room for them. :(
Posts here are my own private opinions.  I do not speak for my employer.

I never got into model trains, but as kids/young teens we loved the H0-scale (1/87) RoCo Minitanks which were rather nicely detailed.

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Perhaps a mix of the hobbies is called for....do they make model railway guns?

I would prefer an Stardestroyer.

When I was a kid I dreamed of having one of those proper full time model train set ups with all the scenery and the switches and those direction changer round about thingies and tracks running through holes in the walls into different rooms...
That was my childhood obsession really, trains. I still do see them as rather cool but...not to the extent you'll catch me buying model trains these days. Though digging out my old set and giving it a whir would be cool.

They used to. I know my ex-brother in law had one for his model trains.

My father was a WW2 fanboi. He watched "A Bridge too Far" at least once a month, and he had a number of WW2 novels (e.g. Stuka, written by an ex-Stuka pilot), and a huge stash of the weekly pulp stories called "Der Landser".
