In the Northeast we're having cool nights but daytime temps are pretty nice, getting into the 60s many days. I did get gas and started my snow blower though, had to make sure it was working ok after sitting all spring and summer. I empty the gas out after each winter. Machine started right up. It's at least 35 years old now, got it used about 1982.

22°C in Vienna today.

The roof blew off a train station up north, and several trees have fallen on the tracks. All trains suspended thus far, maybe I should call ask if they really need me to meet in. I don't think it's wise to brave the weather right now.

You seem more exposed up there, than we were.

It's raining cats and dogs.

Not really. :(

Trains have been cancelled for 8 hours now. A proper storm.

Biking home through a dark, desolate and battered Copenhagen was fun. Some twat across my street had left his window open, luckily no one was beneath it when it was torn off.

The winds got a lot stronger before they hit Denmark too.

The old homelands report the usual: toppled trees, some minor power outages, damaged roofs and windows, rail connections cancelled because of trees on wires/tracks, ferry services cancelled, some major bridges closed. Two people died in Schleswig-Holstein - one crushed by a tree, another by a tumbling wall. And a guy got blown off a roof in my former hometown.

One of my apple trees blew over in the wind and rain storm we had last night. :(

Fortunately I have the day off, so I just got done re-staking it, adding another stake, trimming back the crown (since I was gonna do that this winter anyway) to reduce its weight and increase air flow, and mounding it up more with fresh topsoil.

It's annoying that this damn apple tree won't stay firmly rooted, though.  It's  3 years old and almost 10 feet tall now.  I planted a magnolia at the same time that's solidly rooted, and I planted a peach less than a month ago that had no problem whatsoever in last night's storm.

Doesn't this belong in your Farmer Cal thread?
