I guess the pundits are saying Arizona still has a shot. I am not sure why though - seems like a team that went .500 in the Pac-10 and does not have 20 wins doesn't really deserve a spot.

But then, I guess you are down to picking between a few teams that have similarly unimpressive resumes.

Not sure how I would feel about watching Arizona play in the NIT.

I think Michigan could actually make the dance this year if they beat Illinois on neutral ground.  This year they split the seres, each winning at home.  Interstingly, Illinois has already made the NCAA tourney, so they have less to play for.

Michigan may be in regardless.

Had they beaten a stronger team, I would think you were right.  The wins against UCLA and Guke were a long time ago, though, and they only finished .500 in the Big Ten.  I thinkl they need one more win to clinch it, though I agree that if they get some breaks, they could get in even with a loss.

Most recent bracketology http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology has them as a 10 seed (up from an 11 seed yesterday), for what that's worth.  A win would seal the deal, but if I had to bet I would say they're in either way.  Obviously, it would help their cause if a few bubble teams lost.

While I don't think Arizona deserves to be in after losing to ASU, how does New Mexico get in ahead of them after losing to Oklahoma?

I mst admit that it is interesting to watch all this bracketology stuff - but why would Penn State be "on the bubble" when they are 22-10 (to Michigan's 20-12), won one more conference game, and split the series with Michigan?

I don't understand this stuff!  ;D

8 teams from the Big-10? Are you kidding me?

8 from the Big Ten and only 7 from the Big East doesn't seem to make any sense, does it?  :o

The selection committee looks at several angles in determining who gets in & who doesn't, as well as seeding.  They look at records vs. top 25 teams, "marquee wins", strength of schedule, RPI, etc.  They also tend to weigh more heavily how a team does in the latter part of the season, to try to catch the "hot" teams that will likely do well in the tournament.

On top of that, fans & sportswriters make up their own categories to bolster arguments over who should be in & who should be out.

What gets really amusing is when a team gets shut out of the NCAA tourney & their fans raise holy hell, and then said team gets knocked out in their first NIT game :)

I always roll my eyes at that.  If you were mediocre enough to be a bubble team you have nobody to blame for not getting in.

And if you do want to point fingers at least win the NIT first.

Looks like Univ. of  Dayton is getting in. So now I have to deal with their bandwagon and that will annoy me.

Especially since they don't have the balls to play Wright State next door.

I was pissed about WVU being shut out in 2007, but after they won the NIT I was happy it worked out that way-- new banner for the Coliseum, rather than just another year added to the NCAA tournament banner.

OK, if fucking Creighton makes it into the tourney instead of Arizona, that is going to piss me off.

They have not beaten ANYONE. They have exactly 1 win against a top-50 RPI team.

Man, this bubble shit sucks.
