I gotta say I really disliked the (US) Borgias - and I love both Game of Thrones and Tudors. I think it's the same reason I didn't quite enjoy House of Cards - everybody was just so nasty, there was really no incentive in investing in any of the characters, unless you liked "wickedness porn".

Yup, for me when they go to Naples
and they show that guy who has a dinner scene composed with the corpses of his enemies
, that was way too much, the straw that broke the camel's back.

Too much as in they should have just omitted it? Isn't that at the least a legend about him?

Martinus

Yeah. For me the turning point was the very graphic scene of them
torturing the corpse dinner guy
in one of the following episodes.

Why don't you try to read what he wrote in the context of what I wrote as he was responding to my post?

I did read it in that way but I wasn't so sure if that meant he'd have liked the series better if they just skipped over that or somehow lessened it.

But thank you for not adopting an arrogant tone. :)

Gups

5 Episodes into House of Cards season 3 and I suspect it has jumped the shark. It was never realistic but in the first two seasons it wasn't so ridiculous that you couldn't suspend disbelief. But every political move is just LOL ridic
Inviting pussy riot girls to a Russian state banquet; a joint Russo-US force in the Jordan valley opposed by both Palestinians and Israelies, secret (!)withdrawal of NATO forces from Eastern Europe not to mention the politically impossible Amworks programme
Basically, the US Borgia show portrays as real everything that was attached to the Borgias as part of their black legend, and more, so it ends up being quite sensationalistic in that sense, as in almost every single character is a moral monster of one sort or the other. The Euro Borgia show is way more subdued in that sense.

Gotcha and yeah I can see that as grating.

There is a legend about it, yes, but it's something that AFAIK only popped up in the XIXth century, and there are no contemporary sources about it. The scene itself doesn't move the story forward one bit, it's used only for shock value.

Martinus

Are you guys still watching Vikings?

I'm really enjoying the shift of focus to England in season 3 so far.

Valmy

These days I only get to watch shows if the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are in it   :(

Try the British House of Cards. It's camper so the wickedness is fun.

I wondered where camper had gotten off to.  I blame WaMu for his leaving.

Last Atlantic had a review on the inability of Americans to do political satire compared to Brits, focusing on House of Cards.

Well they have 'Yes, Minister'.

I don't think 'Yes, Secretary' would have been anywhere near as good.
