The problem is that he doesn't work as a credible love interest.

So if Pretty in Pink were remade Duckie would have to be recast is what you're saying.

Although to be pedantic I wouldn't call him a love interest; he's an admirer.

No, I think having Duckie's levity is good - I think he'd just work better as a platonic sidekick.

Credible love interest goes to the bit kat said about how the original ending had Andie ending up with Duckie.

It's clear that in a 21st century re-make, Duckie would just be a gay character.

If Duckie were gay he wouldn't have a hardon for Molly Ringwold and be all busted up when she picks the rich kid.
if Garbo and his gay agenda got their way it would have been all guy main characters. <_<

How so? Us gays love a fabulous leading lady. Why Garbo, for instance!

Don't flatter yourself.

Have you seen my acting?

If you make Duckie a platonic sidekick then the movie becomes just another movie about trying to fit into an out group.  Duckie's feelings make a story of class betrayal.  Like Jungle Fever.

Josephus

And we're supposed to sympathize with Duckie. His one true friend and love interest forgetting him for someone else. Not thinking of him in that way. Haven't we all been there?

But I think the former is exactly what it is about. Just like The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles. I think as viewers we aren't expected to have more than a momentary misgiving that she doesn't end up with Duckie, if any.

That's because you've adopted an alienated pose and choose not to give or expect loyalty.

That's an...odd thing to say.

Breathtaking in its insightfulness.  Bonecrushing.

Back on point, Some Kind of Wonderful does the best friend in the cold who wants to be more than friends a bit better. Mainly because Watts isn't a joke like Duckie.

This is true.  Better film.

Skyfall- Good, but I still prefer Casino Royale.  Javier Bardem did not do it for me, although I liked the dye job- nice that they embrace the psycho.

Quantum of Solace- it's amazing how one stupid idea can totally fuck up an otherwise good movie.  Fuel cells my ass.  What a bunch of fucking nonsense.  Held up better than expected on second viewing.

9 to 5- my wife had never seen this.
What I speak out of my mouth is the truth.  It burns like fire.

There you go, giving a fuck when it ain't your turn to give a fuck.
