Didn't really like the Ready Player One novel much. It was a 80s nostalgia onslaught but the actual sci-fi plot didn't have much meat to it. Which is a pity since the concept is intriguing.

It was total popcorn nostalgia. Just don't look too closely at the characters or the plot or it'll go all 2D on you.

The movie looks like garbage, though.

Yeah, the trailers are terrible. Pity, because Spielberg seemed the perfect fit for the material. I mean, even the Oasis world looks bleak...

Trying to figure out what to do.

Since we're going to Winnipeg for Christmas (my family), Mrs B has arranged for her family to come over on Saturday to visit.  Since of my three kids Timmy (age 7) is the biggest hockey nerd, and I've taken him to a game this year, but Andrew (age 5) might just be the biggest Star Wars nerd, I'm thinking I'm going to try to go with just him and me, maybe on Sunday.

I was just thinking the other day that whole generations can be classified by how they felt about Star Wars as kids - the original trilogy, the prequels, and now these new ones.

The prequels are the outliers.

Withnail and I was on TCM last night.  There was some disagreement a while back, with Gups saying it belonged in the pantheon with Spinal Tap and Holy Grail, whereas I thought it was pretty meh.  Gave it another look. 

The fish out of water scenes are pretty funny.  The homosex panic scenes are not, and they go on and on and on.
