The Magnificent Seven, comes out this weekend I believe. A remake of an old western right? Should I watch the original and ruin the new one for myself?

Watch Seven Samurai, the original original.

It's not like Magnificent Seven is a bad movie though.  It's in fact a very good classic of the genre.

Watch both.
Posts here are my own private opinions.  I do not speak for my employer.

A Story of Violence is a good movie.

Finished it, good little film indeed. William Hurt stole the show in his single scene. Maria Bello stole my heart.

I recall John Wayne actually felt rather uncomfortable while filming Rio Bravo because his love interest, Angie Dickinson was so much younger than him (he was born in 1907, she in 1931, making for a 24 year gap; he was 52 at the time, she was 28).

Best example of this though was making Ronald Reagan the love interest for ... Shirley Temple. In a movie filled with squicky stuff.

The plot: the girl played by Temple is supposed to be the illegitimate daughter of the guy played by Reagan. Turns out she isn't, so the Reagan character is now free to express that incestuous passion he'd been feeling! Yay! They run off together!

Filmed in 1947, so Reagan was 36 and Temple was 19.

Age gap only 17 years, but the context!

Internet commentary:

QuoteAlmost all prints of the film mysteriously disappeared from various film storage facilities and television stations as Ronald Reagan was becoming a prominent political figure.

I had no idea Shirley Temple made movies that late in her life.  I thought she was just a child star.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

First thing I did when I got home was put a copy of both on my desktop. :)

I was wondering what the fuck he was talking about.  Christ, Lusti, that's shit my mother would do.  "Have you seen that movie, "'Glengarry Glenn Miller'?"

But yeah, a well done movie.

Viggo does reluctant murders well. I really like Eastern Promises as well.

Fun fact:  if you look closely, you'll recognize Viggo as one of the Amish in Witness.  Noticed that for the first time a few weeks ago.

Probably more well know, but saw Silvester Stallon as a thug on the metro in Woody Allen's 'Bananas'.  :)
