All the big ones I can think of are American - in depicting soldiers and battles etc. The Home Front feels like it's the more common (and cheaper) setting for BBC shows.

Maybe part of Vietnams popularity? Very cheap to show 5 guys in a jungle.

Korea on the other hand. Damn that is a unrepresented war. I think Mash was technically set in the Korean War but otherwise it has never really gotten a western cinematic treatment. (Incidentally anyone know any good Korean films? They must surely have covered this)

Pork Chop Hill is a good one (free with ads on Youtube in the US).  There are several lesser-known American films with some named stars.  Humphrey Bogart has one, "Battle Circus".   The Steel Helmet is another decent one.

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Well represented in Chinese anti-American propaganda films lately though.

There were lots of American films about the war before Vietnam happened. Pork Chop Hill comes to mind.

Admiral Yi

Anyone know off the top of their head which regiment's uniform Lord Melbourne is always shown in?

Google is not helping.

Watching Young Victoria.  Good so far.

Admiral Yi

Good flick.  Would have been happy with more.

The Bridges of Tokyo-Ri is quite good. The anti-Top Gun Maverick in a sense (the flying scenes are great for a 1950s film).

Another "notable" film is Incheon, produced by the Moonies on a super-high budget and an infamous bad movie.

Duque de Bragança

There is this French documentary, nominated for an Academy Award, about the battle of Heartbreak Ridge, seen from the French volunteer battalion perspective Crèvecœur:

Thanks for that Duque, I'll look into that.

'''' snip'''

Yi, got to agree with Gups and you here, just started watching it (have seen BB) and it's very, very good.

Need to ration myself on viewing too much of it, maybe a couple of episodes a week?

Staring no less than Laurence Olivier, (who spent the last years of his career looking for paychecks.  At least we got "Clash of the Titans" out of that phase of his life.)
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

In the interest of full disclosure I want to reiterate my position.  Season Six is amazing TV.  1 through 5 on the other hand I found ranged from bad to OK to good.  I didn't start giving a damn about the main characters until the end and there were stretches when I found them dull.  The other characters I always found interesting.

Admiral Yi

Obviously I'm not speaking for Gups.

Succession S4 E8. Truly peak Succession when immediately after you watch the episode you hate all the characters and feel terrible about the country and the nature of humanity in general.
