So what the hell is going on with this Oscars stuff?
Surely the reason mostly white people are in the running is that mostly white people had the worthy roles this year. Because many were based on real pepole.

That this year movies were being made about white people rather than black people?
Blame history for that. Not the film industry.
I've just checked and yup, 4 of the 5 best actor films are biographical.

Just watched "The Interview" I understand why Kim got a bit miffed about the movie. Nice comedy-action bromance in overdrive.

Straight Outta Compton - biographical movie about NWA rap group.  Not nominated.
Concussion - biographical movie about a black doctor who investigated NFL concussions.  Not nominated.

I haven't seen either movie so I can't say whether they were deserving or not.  But you can't say that it's because there were no biographical movies about black people being made.

After voting Shakespeare in Love best picture I can only conclude the Academy is pure evil so no wonder they engage in horrendous racism.
Quote"This is a Russian warship. I propose you lay down arms and surrender to avoid bloodshed & unnecessary victims. Otherwise, you'll be bombed."

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

Grey Fox

I have seen Straight Outta Compton. Nothing in it is worthy of an Oscar nomination.
Colonel Caliga is Awesome.

Biopics are way overrated.

Biopics are way overrated.

Especially when they are autobiopic. The thing is produced by Dre, Ice-Cube & Eazy-E's widow.

Tyr is right in that the Academy voters do seem to love them.

There isn't even a full season 1  :(

Coincidently I'm watching Firefly on DVD, having missed it the first time around.

Interestingly, or not, the running order on the DVD is different that the order they were screened on tv.

Yeah, Fox showed the episodes out of order (starting with Train Job, I believe), and switched the time slot back and forth because it kept colliding with sports IIRC. DVDs usually have the episodes in the intended narrative order (unlike Netflix).
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.
